Absolutely. Well said. I find listening to vinyl requires more mindful "engagement". To my ears, Vinyl still sounds better. As good as my Gungnir Multibit is (with microRendu/Roon), and as much as I love it, it still can't match a well-mastered, well cut, and well-pressed dead-quiet LP with my Michell Gyro SE/SME V and probably most importantly, Koetsu Urushi Vermilion MC cartridge for verisimilitude, and more importantly, the ability for creating a beguiling and engaging musical experience. The Bob's Devices step-up transformer and EAR 324 phono stage is a big part of that, too. Tim de Paravicini knows his way around a phono stage. The Zestro Andros phono stage is quite amazing, too. It's all about finding synergy with vinyl reproduction, and putting mindful thought and care into the selection of components AND set-up as Mike points out.I was listening to my vinyl rig a few weeks ago with some perfect condition original Mercury Living Presence recordings, and it was well....pretty dang wonderful.

There's something about vinyl that is hard to put your finger on, but...it's just...magical. It reminds me of Conrad-Johnson's tag line:"It just sounds right." It reminds me also of the look I get from my Fujifilm X-cams with the X-Trans sensor that is different from Bayer sensors but magical, also...

I don't mind that he prefers digital, which is fine. Lots of people do. But the troll like postings like that don't go over well with this crowd.

I recently bought a Vali 2 for my office, and moved my Magni 2 Uber into the living room and hooked it up to our turntable, which I had previously only listened to over speakers. I was shocked at how fantastic it sounded, even compared to the Modi Multibit I use in my office. Like Puma Cat said, there is something about it that just sounds right.

There is something about vinyl that is just too easy to put your finger on. A little grease... some dust... some scratchy dust...

My life with LPs has included some sad moments and one or two real heartbreaks. And I still remember breaking my mum's favourite 78 before I was out of single figures in years.

Perhaps this kind of involvement is part of the magic? Audio with risk!

No, I don't play records any longer, but they still have a big corner of my heart.

I damaged two LPs out of the thousands that I played. I put a small scratch in 'Patti Smith - People have the Power' 12" single and 'Lou Reed - Berlin' (German pressing). I always treated LPs with the care that LPs should be treated. It was second nature to me. I didn't have to think about it. Except those two times, and they involved too much alcohol use.

I've found that record cleaning "machines" can do a wonderful job these days to produce dead-quiet LPs. I have both the VPI and also the inexpensive Spin-Clean. And, I think the Spin-Clean actually does a better job of deep-cleaning than the VPI does. I often use them in tandem, first the Spin-Clean, and then the VPI to vacuum out any residual liquid. But even a Spin-Clean by itself does a d*mn fine job. As most of my LPs are jazz and classical, you can often find used LPs at record stores in excellent physical condition, and all that is required is quick cleaning, and they are dead-quiet. Pop them into MoFi sleeve and you're good to go.

    Just got caught up.

Damn, given where I work, I will never get used to Schiit co-opting the MP and gadget monikers. Those names are taken! :p
If you loan me one, I'll take pictures of it near some iconic real Manhattan Project buildings!

I am really looking forward to hearing it, and the Loki, at RMAF.

Yeah, you don't want to use alcohol, instead a mild surfactant and distilled water. A/V Solutions and Audio Intelligent Cleaning Solutions make excellent products for deep cleannig a record without damaging the vinyl.

I don't think recreational consumption of a mild surfactant and distilled water is recommended.

Haha! Good point. Urg, that's the scientist in me taking things too literally! :p C'est la vie! Having the training and mindset of a scientist is just as much a curse as it can be a blessing. LOL.

I really envy people who just seem to have the knack of keeping records perfect. I don't recall directly damaging an LP, but it just seemed that mine got pops and ticks whatever. Oh, I learned the lesson about heat warping them the hard way... but once was enough, I never made that mistake again.

Scotty....thanks for your support....if you look at the VERY beginning....it says.....IMO !!!!!! Since getting my Yggdrasil I have discovered the joy of music again....I now listen damn near every day....that's the joy the Yggdrasil has brought me with digital files that I did not quite reach before....vinyl is way too much work and lack variety that digital can offer.....I don't even want to get started on Cartridges , previous stylus shapes leaving patterns that a new shape stylus cannot follow like the previous one....

Controlling Roon from my iPad, reading Album liners like I did when I listened to Vinyl (another Roon feature), being able to see all the info on the files....etc...

Hope all you vinyl enthusiasts really enjoy the new Schiit TT !!! I hope it brings the smile to your face that you are looking for!

For whatever reason, the "IMO" didn't register with me the first time I read the second posting. Later I reread it and it did register. That changed the meaning of the post for me. I wonder why the need to post that twice though.

A like from me Larry because you are enjoying music via the DAC (really that is what matters).

Personally I may try vinyl again. I have good memories of it just sounds right/enjoyable ;)

Wish a friend of mine had had a mild surfactant instead of alcohol the night he dropped my tonearm onto a record and blew out the left channel on my beloved Marantz amp. The record survived. So did my friend. Barely.

Yup... vinyl was a great tech achievement, but the world went digital for a reason, not because of absolute quality but simply because it's just so easy and convenient. When you get the urge to listen, you don't want to wait!

Berlin is my favorite Lou Reed album. Really. They’re Taking the Children Away is so life affirming.
