Bummer about MP coming out later in the year. I was hoping to demo it at CanJam.

I wonder what Eitr could be? A new DAC? I thought Amps were Jason's designs and DACs were Mike's. Hmmm. MP is the magic make everything sound better box so I have no idea what the Eitr is. Mike joked about it being a vinyl, laser disc player. Maybe Schiit is making a music streamer or digital transport of some kind?

There have been hints dropped around here over the last few months.

But Schiit already has the Wyrd USB decrapifier.

Check my status from today. Seems pretty likely it is a SPDIF decrapifier or maybe a "eitr"-net device. Either way, no need to speculate as it will be here so soon.

An SPDIF reclocker would be nice. I was going to buy an iFi SPDIF ipurifier but I would probably pick up Schiit's offering instead.

My guess: a USB to SPDIF converter. Using the CM6632 (Yggdrasil usb gen3) with better USB isolation than wyrd, reclocking that output (maybe the gum/Yggdrasil VCXO circuit) and then very good spdif out also isolated. Rca,bnc, xlr— possibly usb passthru like wyrd. Trick power regs at key places. Modi size case w/white LED for power, one LED for "buy better gear, or now: get less noisy usb source."

Edit: maybe they get really serious w/power, and go Jot sized.

Can't really have AES in a midi-sized box, probably bifrost sized if it's a DDC. Remember, proper AES is transformer coupled.

To be honest, I have absolutely no idea what this Manhattan Project is, no insider knowledge whatsoever. So my speculations below are purely speculations.

Right now I have an Yggdrasil, which is perfect in almost every way but leaves a touch of tube warmth to be desired. This is why I still miss my SFD-2 MKII SE+. The only thing keeping me from going Gumbreya or Fryggy, however, is the small possibility that this Manhattan Project may turn out to be an official tube multibit DAC with at least Yggdrasil-level performance, or in the form of an upgrade to the current existing Yggdrasil (which is a future-proof, upgradable product according to Schiit). Yes, I know the chances are slim, Jason even said a tube DAC is not likely gonna happen anytime soon. But if this does become a reality, I wouldn't want to void my warranty on Yggdrasil by performing irreversible surgical procedures on it.

    1) Baldr said there will not be a Yggdrasil 2, ever. Adding tubes sounds like a whole new product, but one that they would avoid - you want tubes, get a tube pre. They may revise the output stage in other ways, though.
    2) There have been one million hints as to what the Manhattan Project is and it involves DSP. Time and phase correction, that sort of thing. Zero hints it is a DAC, much less a tube one.

So... if that were true, it's something that would appeal to speaker listeners (room correction)? Or would headphone listeners also benefit from this DSP thing?

I read it as a realtime intonation/temperament processor. Basically with the goal of converting equal-tempered acoustic music to just intonation or something similar.

So whatever this DSP project is, it will be a tangible hardware product and not software (like Amarra, Sonarworks, etc.)?
