I've read through all the posts in the forum, and a lot of members like different types of Tubes (which is to be expected. My question is, which tubes would be the best over-all tubes for the Mjolnir to achieve a warm tube sound?

    On a side note:

@BenjaminBore posted a pic where it shows the tubes kind of looking like they are on tube risers, is that the case or is that just how hose tubes are?

    Thanks!

Too funny. The photo below shows what I am rolling in my MJ2 right now:

    IMG_1358.JPG

These are 5670 type tubes. They are sitting on top of 5670 to 6922 adapters which sits on top of 6922 socket savers.

What's even more interesting, is that the very tubes in the picture are what I would recommend if you want a warm sound that still has detail and clarity. I love these tubes. I like them as well as the Siemens and Telefunken CCa tubes. I got this pair for $90.

@The Alchemist; the WE396a tubes need adapters (linked to earlier in this thread) and those are what you're seeing. Those WE396a tubes seem the most relaxed sounding of the bunch I've tried (all others are 6922 types). With them, the Mjo sounds like a Valhalla 2 with more bass impact and a more detailed presentation. The tradeoff is you also get a bit of that Valhalla haze -- not quite as crisp, and everything has a smoothing filter applied to it. Bass is a little pillowy, but it's very pleasant. Any discomfort I had is gone using these (versus Philips E188CC Miniwatts). Can crank the volume. Funny that these have the opposite effect on me as @BenjaminBore above. They're soothing in comparison.

Just note, at least one member here has reported that things like switching power supply noise have made it through a Furman AC-215A. I think it was @Garns. Not a panacea, in other words.

Also, from what I can glean looking at shots of the circuits, the CMX-2 overlaps at least somewhat in role with with the Furman power conditioners; it does claim to offer power conditioning in addition to DC offset correction. My guess is that the most of the benefit running from the Furman (or any other filtered power strip for that matter) is surge supression. But YMMV.

Can someone be kind enough to give me some links to the tubes and the setup that @BenjaminBore , @winders , and @a440Hz with the adapters? And how much would that setup set me back?

Thank you for all of the wonderful, and informative posts.

@The Alchemist, may I suggest Amperex Orange Globes 6DJ8. Even on the Valhalla 2, they seemed on the warm side. Probably land a pair from $50 to $90.

I always liked Orange Globes in my Valhalla 2 - I want to use these for the Mjolnir. I am really intrigued by @BenjaminBore 's setup, but I love Orange Globes too -just out of my price range right now.

I do have LISST tubes for the MJolnir, and they sound great as well.

If I were looking to buy a pair, I would seriously consider those. What I often do is send messages to the sellers offering a lower price. I might offer $70 and see what happens.

@The Alchemist if the WE396A is out of your price range for now, but you want to roll something different, you could try the plain 5670. They're usually under $10 a tube.
    5 pc JAN 5670
    5 pc GE 5670
They take the same adapter as the 396.
