I've really been enjoying God is an Astronaut, they have 5 or 6 albums out, and I like all of the 5 I have. El Ten Eleven too. I've never seen an interview with anyone involved in this genre that is willing to call their music "post-rock." They all seem to hate the term.

Yeah... The word "Post-rock" itself is quite outdated these days.

Speaking of God is an astronaut, This is my favorite:

There's a new album by If these trees could talk. While musically interesting, the sound quality is horrible. I'm wondering if anyone has tried their music on vinyl, and if so, if the master is any better.

I hate to be that crazy guy responding to his own post, however the message is worth it:

Do not buy this on vinyl, hell it might not even be worth buying on CD. It sounds like a 128 Kbps MP3.

I'm in one of those period with not much time or energy left for the hobby, that leaves me only little time for the music.
And if I can find an album that can strike a chord of my soul at the end of the day, I'm glad to share.

Glad to see some post-rock fans here. The label perhaps is a bit dated but hard to say what will replace it....at this point I think anyone who's into it knows exactly what's meant when you say "post rock"

Lots of good stuff in here already, This Will Destroy You's album from 2015, Another Language, is incredible:

Also, Godspeed's first album is still probably one of the most impactful artistic works I've ever encountered:

For A Minor Reflection, they can be fun and serious.

A shame this thread went dead for a spell

One of my favorite bands ever... a shame they haven't put out any new music and I never got to see them live!

I always summed post-rock and post-metal just under the post-rock banner, but I got started on the Metal side my self. Oppeth was my gate way into post rock,

Also if you guys aren't familiar with them, David Hasselhoff on Acid is an amazing post-metal-jazz fusion band

@Deep Funk you and I share a love for Animals as Leaders as well, do they qualify as a post metal band? Or more strictly Metal... there'a other bands like the like Scale the Summit and Pomegranate Tiger

This is the first time I've ventured into this thread. The term post-rock makes me laugh. I kind of hate genre classifications and think the specificity of them is more hilarious than useful. Even after reading up on it, I would still have a very hard time listening to a band and identifying it as Post-Rock.

That said, my music was on shuffle tonight, and a favorite album of mine came up. Lo and behold, what does it say for the genre? Yep.

    So, does this count?

The label does seem a bit loosey-goosey lately, but maybe I'm just an old post-whatever curmudgeon that misses bands like:

EDIT: perhaps i've confused post-hardcore/punk with post-rock here? altho i'm willing to debate the common evolution of many of these (mis)nomers.

I love this thread. I am a math rock junkie sometimes. The instrurmental stuff is th best for me to listen to when reading books.

Anyways, last year I ran across this Japenese band called toe. Most of their titles are in Japanese, but it is awesome music.
