That's what most poorer and close-minded people do since there's the sour grapes phenomenon. The odac and o2 amp combo(which was decent but replaced by the schiit stack) being a prime example where people refuse to believe there is anything better. As someone r/headphones once said, the wall of diminishing returns is always conveniently placed at the average redditor's budget.

So I did not read through that Redit post (see first post on this thread), until a few minutes ago.

So in a nutshell, it seem @flatterthanetys feels SBAF shills Schiit, believes that some of us behave like trolls, contradict ourselves with dislikes on delta-sigma (digititus), are full of shit for comparing the HD650 to the HE400, crap regularly on planar headphones, adore @Tyll Hertsens (our one and true savior), overall represent an "echo-chamber" of a site, and most importantly take a shit on Chord.

Then why the hell did you join dude?

For one, I do not shill Schiit stuff, I try not to troll, I do not think lowly of delta sigma nor care for the @baldr digititus term, do not think the HD650 and the HE400 are comparable, and do not feel SBAF is an "echo chamber". I also like the PM-3 headphone a lot which I think it's planar and have a lot of respect for @Tyll Hertsens (though I consider him a friend more than my one and true savior). So I don't understand what you are talking about. Are you selectively picking SBAF posts and impressions?

All that said, I do think Chord products are overpriced pieces of crap. Some of them resembling Fisher-Price toddler toys.

I'm also a bit dense here. What does you avatar represent @flatterthanetys ? What's the story behind it?

Mine sort of resembles me if I had a painted mustache and a bit more hair up top. I also used to wear glasses until I had my eyes under the knife. I like Groucho and would smoke cigars if I my wife was OK with it. She is not OK with it.

I'll 66.7% agree on that last bit - Chord Dave is overpriced to buggeration and odd looking, but absolutely not crap sounding. It is the only DAC I have heard that does more for me than the Pavane - not by much, but enough to notice.

Sad to see my mini-rant on 'dislikers' got nuked. Oh well, probably for the best.

I probably missed that bit. You mean it got nuked here at SBAF? Or are you talking about Redit?

What was your dislikers mini-rant about?

As far as this, I heard the Chord Dave at one of our SBAF LA meets. It was @TMoney's and he was running the pricey Focal cans with it. As amplifier, I think there were two of @dsavitsk reference amplifiers in the chain. I think I told both @TMoney and @dsavitsk which amp I preferred, and I think that is the one @TMoney took home as well as I think both of us felt the same way about it. I have some of that in a meet impressions here somewhere. That said, on it's own, I did not feel the Chord Dave was super special, I thought it looked stupid, and I felt it was priced stupidly.

Not being special at that stupidly high price and looks to me qualifies the product as crap over all. But one can disagree and feel the DAC performs really well and in that regard the stupid price is justified. I don't know how one can justify the stupid looks though.

I personally don't even like Schiit gear that much... but I recommend them anyways because I think they are a better value than most other options.

Other than bitching was there any signal on those posts, or just some brown noise?

Chord products to me are head scratching. Wacky ergonomics, a mess of different color lights (which you have to memorize which light means what function), and some kind of pseudo rain dance required to adjust filters, inputs, outputs, and so on.

That special machining can't be cheap either, and it almost feels like that is where the $$$ go with them. Is it so hard to just put the Dave DAC chip into a standard aluminium box for a cheaper product, if the DAC chip is really that special and people do really like the chip and not the weird pivoting equipment with machined legs?

I guess I could use it for Christmas tree decoration if it wasn't that heavy.

This is a good point. I'm just going to close this thread. Too much bitching. Not much useful content.

    BTW, I just banned @flatterthanetys and @warmfeg.
