I figure this might not be the best forum to post this question in... but are there well-traveled SBAF members who can recommend a travel destination? Life has gotten me on the ropes and I'm looking to quit my current job in the near future and take a solo trip overseas to clear my head and ruminate on certain things
    • a 2 week getaway (maybe 3?)
    • cool weather
    • not overly expensive
    • somewhere relatively safe where I don't have to keep my guard up all the time
    • scenic, with good day hikes around the area
    • some element of water... which is always calming
    • away from the hustle and bustle of metropolitan life
I'm pretty much open to anywhere in the world, except the West Coast in the States and NZ (for personal reasons).

If Canada isn't out of the question, Vancouver fits basically all of your criteria.

Modern, but not too metropolitan; surrounded by nature, lots of scenic hikes, mild weather (although that's going to change fairly soon), and it shouldn't be too expensive to visit for a few weeks.

I've actually been there before. Loved it there. Loved Canada. I'm considering returning there again, but only when I've got more time and cash to spare, when I can take my time to explore. It's too beautiful a country to spend such a short time in.

Galway, Ireland should meet all of those criteria. One of my favorite places in the world.
