I don't get dips over time. Stays pretty rock solid. Are you maxed out and at what resolution? I've got it maxed out at 3440x1440 with a 7700k running at 5GHz, an overclocked 1080ti and 32GB of DDR4 3200 running at pretty tight timings. I would have to run SLI to get rock solid full frames at 100Hz in Trostland at full settings. I can't abide losing out fidelity here. I'll deal with the dip into the 80s sometimes given how nice it looks.

I have most stuff on "High", rather than "Highest", mostly- a mere 1080, on a 2560xwhatever IPS G-Sync display. Generally, it's well above 100 frames other than a few specific places, as you mention.. but after a few hours, the framerate gets choppy... everywhere.

(i7 7700k at 5GHz, 32 GB of decent RAM, all temps very comfortable, so throttling is pretty unlikely)

Anyway, like I say, when it gets bad, quitting and restarting the game brings it right back, which makes me think it's a resource leak or similar issue somewhere. I can go back to the exact same area, with no issues. I don't think it's related to on-screen entities or excessive particles either- it can sometimes happen in those simple and deliberately occuluding corridors leading into lost sectors.

It's not a massive issue, the answer is probably not to spend too long playing video games. Failing that, bouncing the client when I finish the current quest/strike/whatever works reasonably well.

Incidentally, if I had a <currency unit> for every time someone has asked "how do you actually leave a fireteam?" over the last week, I'd probably have enough to bribe Vicarious Visions enough to rework some of the really odd and non-obvious parts of the UI, as mapped onto the PC.

There’s supposed to be a patch on Thursday to address that issue @Kattefjaes. A lot of people are experiencing the frame rate tanking after a period of time

Yeah, since the above posts, I googled around a bit, and found lots of people having the same issues. Interesting that it's often more severe for people in a clan too- I noticed that the clan roster display is perma-broken too, I wonder if they're related.

Still, it was severe enough (120 to 25ish fps in a non-taxing area) that I was pretty sure I wasn't imagining it- esp since restarting the game usually fixed it. I'm glad @zerodeefex wasn't bitten by it though, at least someone escaped intact.

    Edit:

Actually, last night, I noticed that some of the time, when the problem occurred, the framerate wasn't tanking, according to the FRC in the monitor (which on a variable sync monitor, has a grasp of how many new frames are send to it per second). Sometimes the game was sitting at 120ish FPS, and just looking awful, like 25ish FPS, with the shitty perceived detail (i.e. dynamic resolution) that you get when the temporal resolution is too low for the spatial resolution (you need to up the framerate when you up the res, effectively- a lesson learned the hard way years ago with lab work involving Super Hi-Vision and so forth).

Essentially, even if you ignore the blather in that previous para, what I saw was that sometimes the problem is judder rather than low framerate per se- but it looks a lot like an FPS drop. There were some places where FPS tanked, as measured via the monitor's hardware- but a lot of the time, it's "just" judder. Thus, I've no idea what's going on :D

Back to the thread, copped one of these for cost from a co-worker:

The SNES Classic is awesome. Get yourself some controller extensions and you can play from your couch!

I missed my PC I sold before college, so I built a new one. I payed a total of $157.
    This is what I bought:

    $50 on craigslist
Dell PC with 3rd gen i3, 6gb ram, comes with 22" 1080p monitor and a Toshiba laptop

    $90 on craigslist
    Saphire r9 280 dual x

    $17 on ebay
antec 80+ bronze 500w power supply

Then some random fans and a ssd and copy of windows I had on hand completed it. I play BF4 on high settings on my 2560x1080 monitor perfectly fine. For $157. Pretty good deal, even better deal once I sell the laptop and monitor I got with it that I don't need.

And the EU colors are so much better.

I am impressed that they included 2 controllers this time around :)

How much am I missing out by not having a 144hz display? I have 2 dell ultrasharp 2560x1440 monitors, which I need for the design work that I do. They look amazing, the colors are beautiful but they are of course only 60fps.

Currently running a 4790k at 4.8ghz, evga 1080 ti and 32gb corsair vengeance 2400 so I would like to take full advantage of the frames I'm rendering.

You are missing out on the possibility of 84 extra frames. The extra motion smoothness is hard to describe.

However, coming from nice Dell displays, you'll either be stuck with a crappy looking TN but with excellent motion clarity or an IPS with rich colors at the expense of more motion blur and very likely other QC issues such as dead pixels, panel uniformity issues, backlight bleed, or major IPS glow. (Note that TN can have QC problems too, but they seem less frequent IME.)

Make sure you get something with G-Sync! Sometimes you have to fiddle with the right V-sync on/off settings to get it working with certain games, but it's so, so good to have. Buttery smooth gameplay.

Thanks for the reply. Right now, 60fps doesn't seem jittery or rough to me but I've never seen a higher refresh rate. One of my coworkers has an asus 144hz 1080p panel I might try to borrow just to see how I like it.

I'm not sure I can sacrifice the color accuracy though. At home I design vinyl signs and the colors have to be spot on.

    Sorry for the slight OT.

Love this game! The best game of 2017 for me by far. Pretty much a Quentin Tarantino movie that you can play.

I'm using ASUS PG279Q monitor right now. It's a 144hz 1440p IPS monitor with G-Sync. Color accuracy is quite good after calibrations, too, one of the best in gaming monitor market if I recall correctly (and if you trust Tom's Hardware). Suits my gaming and my graphic/web design needs very well, if quite expensive. If you're willing to throw $1,000-something at a monitor, you should consider this one. A downside would be ASUS' QC panel lottery problem, but I've got none with mine so far.

Oh, and once you go 144hz, it's hard to go back to 60hz again. At least it's like that for me. ;)

OK, I would recommend looking for a 144Hz, G-Sync, IPS panel. Just be warned you may need to go through a few pairs to find a perfect one. But maybe QC is better these days than about a year ago. Having a local store you can go to for returns of less than stellar units is even better. And if you don't already have a calibration unit/software, I'd recommend investing. Worst case, you may want to keep a Dell around as a second monitor. Hope your desk is big enough!

60FPS doesn't seem rough until you see something running at 144Hz. It's actually very weird at first.

Playing Doom 2016 for the first time at 165Hz when I got my Dell gaming monitor was a revelation. I cant imagine playing an FPS at anything else now. For other games the benefit is still there, its just not as immediately obvious

THE HOLLOW KNIGHT DLC IS AMAZEBALLS.

Destiny 2 is frustrating me. It's a great game, but I always seem to run into the server/crashing issues whenever I'm in some of the more end-game content. The PvP is taking me back to the old Halo 2/3 multiplayer days and it's really fuckin awesome, so props to Bungie/Activision getting that right!

Are you using one of the 1440p gsync 165 Hz dells? I have one myself and it is fantastic, especially for competitive FPS games. Was using a BENQ 1080p 144 Hz before, and I appreciate the increase in resolution for the single player games, along with still being fast for multiplayer games.

Definitely true that once you go high refresh rate, you can not go back.

Anyone here play emulators? I'm enjoying the heck out of RE4 on Dolphin right now. Looks much better than on PS2.

Dolphin for the un-dubbed Arc Rise Fantasia.

Playing through with a GameCube controller using the official Wii U adaptor.

I emulate for translation patches mostly. Real hardware covers the rest.

EDIT: Also check out the Pokken controllers for emulation. They use DirectInput. No special drivers required.

PS4 controller works like a charm for all my emulators.

The thing about emulators is that:
    1. We can enhance the graphic. This is a big plus.
    2. Savestates! Another big plus
    3. We can use cheat more easily. I need to use cheat in order to enjoy the games.

But seeing that classic SNES really brings back memories.
