I am probably among the few guys who hate IEMs. Find it a pain to take it out and put it back in when I need to talk to someone, and for some reason they make me nauseous.

For everyday commute and office I use Phone > HA2> PM-3. Neutron app for flac and Spotify streaming.

I use either an iPhone/iPad playing Tidal or podcasts, and Koss KSC-75 w/ headband or Etymotic ER-4Ps.

I pretty much hate IEMS also but for slightly different reasons. Either I can't make them fit well enough for good sound or my ears start to itch after 1/2 hr or so. The Etymotics I own fit great with the flange tips, but I still have to remove them every so often for a good scratch.

Thinking back, most of my music listening has been done with portable players going back to cassette Walkmans. I think that's why I'm struggling switching to using my laptop as a source.

Currently, Fiio X1 < Fiio E11 < Porta Pros. I'm on the lookout for an X3 because of the digital out which I hope to use with a future Modi Multibit perhaps... Don't quite know what my next portable headphone purchase would look like... I do not like IEMs either, I feel unsteady on my feet with them.

    Really portable? X3ii + IEM.

What do I prefer? Samsung S5 + Mojo + HD600. It's a compromise in the other direction. With a way to keep the cord organized and a rubber band to keep the phone and Mojo together, it's even kind of portable.

We're not quite there yet, but I can see a time in the not so distant future where even high end digital audio players have been replaced by cell phones. This is already pretty much the case on the low end and the phones are getting more capable each year.

    I use either of:

iPhone 6s > Andromeda, Shure SE 535 or TFZ Series 5
Fiio X5 > Andromeda, Shure SE 535 or Dunu 2kj

Just my phone and the VSD3 or Carbo Tenore, used to use the Fiio X1, but spotify + phone is such a breeze to use OTG.

I only listen to music while riding in a vehicle. so either on the bus, plane, train or as a passenger. Whenever I walk with IEMs on I can hear the stomping of my feet and I really don't like it. On-ears would be less of a problem while walking but I still don't like the idea of listening to music while I am active.

Right now I use RE-400s with my Moto G but I am looking to divorce my music from my phone. It has little to do with the quality of the phone sound since that sounds perfectly fine. More because having a charged phone is really important to me and I would rather keep extra-curricular stuff on a separate device so I don't run out of charge. I'll probably get a standalone player from FiiO or get an iPod touch. I like having analog volume control so I'm likely to end up making a CMoy amp too to go with it. I have a Centrance DacPort slim which is suppose to work with Android phones but I haven't been able to get it to work yet, it's exclusively for laptop use. Getting a super expensive Astell & Kern or Chord Mojo doesn't appeal to me because that's money that could go toward really good 'phones. Here is a small list of portable phones i'd like to incorporate into my collection.

    1More Triple Driver
    Alcair Reference Custom
    Noontec Zoro II
    Oppo PM3

I also have a transportable setup. This is something I take with me and unpack when I reach my end destination; like a hotel room or guest house. For this I have the Schiit Modi 1 and the Schiit Modi 2U. I eventually would like to get the Schiit Modi MB, but that can wait. Not only is this compact but this works internationally, I just change the wall-wart to the appropriate voltage. This will power 99% of headphones so you can take just about anything with you, although you should probably avoid open headphones if you are in a library or cubical.

I have a separate portable setup for IEMs + DAP. I really wish I could bring my full sized sound into wherever I go but that's pretty impossible so I just have the UERM + DP-X1. Upside is that it has ALL the music I could imagine with my iPhone being able to tether to the DP-X1 if I need to connect to a streaming service somehow, but the downside is the sound quality. I don't see myself going out to buy an Andromeda or anything anytime soon though I'd love to hear an IEM that sounds as good as my full sized setup.

At this point, the ZX2 plus a pair of Campfire IEMs is all I need.

I've been using a Radius hp-nhr21k out of the colorfly C3, but noise floor is an issue because of their sensitivity. I'm hoping to remedy this when I get a new phone and dac dongle to go with it. (Rip Lumia 830 you were ok but not really..)

I'd choose my Andromeda over almost all of my other headphones.

My K10 sounds great straight out of my phone (Nexus 6P). If I have space for extra stuff, like on an airplane, I'll use my Leckerton UHA6S to eliminate the noise floor.
