I LOVE Lagavulin...I keep 2 bottles at any given time as find myself going through them often :)

For a real treat, pick up a bottle of Bunnahabhain 18. Easily one of my desert island scotches. Superb nose, amazingly long legs and you are still drinking the first sip 15 minutes after actually drinking the first sip ;)

Ardbeg is a bit stronger than Laphroiag, but still pleasant.
    Very nice!

Never had the chance to try Ardbeg. Will have to look out for it if it's anything like Lagavulin.

Another interesting bottle, totally different is Jura. Tasted like literal butterscotch candy. Delicious.

One can be provided on request. I say forget the leather chair and get this glass instead if you don't have it. One of the best investments if you REALLY TRULY want to enjoy a dram.

Nice. A friend invited me to Whiskey Fest a few years ago -- a trade show In MYC where you can sample pretty much anything from any distillery. It was great and they gave out a glass in this style to all attendees as swag. Not sure who made it, but it's the same shape. I use it all the time, usually w some ice cold stones for chilling which I prefer to ice.

Enjoy....that whiskey glass is one of the best investments a person can make to enjoy a drink. Your nosing abilities will go through the roof :) Also, the shape of the rim is such that it hits a particular area of your tongue when you take a sip. It enhances the whole experience...never understood how important the glass is till I tried this one.

    Enjoy in good health!

Enjoying the Dalmore 15 now, but probably not as well as would be experienced with the glasses suggested (and on the way.)

Great recommendation. I have had a couple for a couple years now. Definitely like them more than a regular tumbler.

I'll have to check them out, I'm short on tumblers anyways because of a retarded inbred cat. Damn thing decided that the hand-washed tumblers drying next to the sink were fun to push around, so he pushed them 3 feet and off the edge.

Are Balvenie (12,17) and Glenfiddich(12,18) considered by you blokes to be too pedestrian? I think they're smooth alternatives to Macallan for casual imbibers that don't like smoky/peaty.

Glenfiddich is just fine, I actually have a bottle of 15 here with me as payment for house/dog sitting for a week for my parents. It's great for casual drinking. Balvenie Doublewood is what I use to get people into Scotch, it's finished in sherry barrels for a bit of sweetness. I don't had a first-time scotch drinker Ardbeg.

I've never had Macallan, but it's on he list of stuff to try eventually.

I am not one for overly peaty or smokey Scotches, so I tend to stay I guess in the shallower pool. I think the Balvenie is quite nice. I don't drink much Glenfiddich simply because I have others that I prefer. Don't remember the circumstances, but a Macallan 15 Fine Oak was my first Scotch and I have loved it since.

For some reason, I don't feel attracted to the Glenfiddich taste profile. I'd drink it, but it does nothing for me. The 15 year is ok, the 18 year is more interesting, but still no wow factor :)

The Balvenie 17yr Doublewood is absolutely fantastic! It goes down smooth and the flavor profile MUST be experienced. Fruits, nougat, finest european dark chocolate notes. Ok you win...I'll pour a glass in the evening, share some with the wife and listen to some Miles Davis Blackhawk Sessions on vinyl ;)

The Balvenie 17yr is very nice. I prefer mine in a chilled glass. But I hit the 12yr more frequently just due to cost.

It's funny - that and the 12yr are the only Scotch my wife enjoys, but she needs it loaded up with ice. Blasphemy, I know, but other than that she's a keeper.

I had picked up a bottle of Kelt - Tour Du Monde Commodore about a week ago. Stunning cognac! Wife and I enjoyed a glass each or so along with some nice blues playing on the turntable on low volume (after daughter dozed off). I prepped a nice charcuterie plate for the evening....it's all about the simple things in life I say :)

Music and choice alcohol seem to go so well together!!

By the way, any updates from the gents who bought the Glencairn glasses? How do you like them? Just wondering if you guys enjoyed the experience. Cheers!

Also, tomorrow is going to rain, but the wife, myself and my daughter are going to drive up to LA to pick up the last bottle of a VERY VERY special cognac in ALL of California. I'll update this thread once I've had some experience to share ;)
