I'm don't have anything against USB, even for audio, but one problem is that, when USB stuff goes wrong, it's hard to tell which end has the fault

@Thad E Ginathom Yep, heat index hitting 47C in some parts of the country, around my area too, with news that it is probably going to get worse over time. I don't think I'd mind a dry heat as much, but it's tropical humidity so the temps persist well after nightfall.

Gungnir MB single ended into SW51+. I know it is cliche, but I am hearing things in songs that I think were smeared together. Instrument separation is greater. I have only a scant few hours on it but I am really happy.

I haven't heard that specific one, but I used to own the ADI-2 Pro and have heard the DAC version (pre FS). I think it's a solid dac on the stereotypical pro/dry side, but the real value is in the built-in DSP options.

@Merrick While I don't share solidarity with the student protestors, I cannot argue with your statements. Unfortunately I don't think senseless violence in the region will end while Israeli leadership retains settler-hardliners and Palestinian leadership continues to act as a proxy for regional powers hell-bent on Israel's destruction. Would this current cycle end if Hamas frees their Oct. 7th hostages?

@crenca I wouldn’t even say that I hear more detail. Maybe I would in an A/B test, but that’s not what makes the difference to me. Somehow, I enjoy the music much more lossless, but can’t really say why. I always wanted to try with aptX, but never got around to it yet.

I’ve debated selling my Auteur for a Bathys. I use headphones infrequently and when I do the noise canceling and ability to use as a wireless headset is something I need.

@Merrick I don’t think I will ever buy a closed-back again, I have the Bathys for that duty. Plus, they are my travel headphones for hotel room/good quality as well as for train/plane wireless and ANC requirements, and I use them as a headset for meetings when I’m at the office. Great allrounders.

Each to their own, but I don't think that DSoTM is going to figure for me even once this century.

I visited a friend who has an inexpensive setup with small book shelf setup nestled between 4 monitors. It was pretty pleasant. I like my headphones, but the best sounding ear pads for me are also the most uncomfortable.

@SoupRKnowva maybe some coaxials above the monitors on the left and right pointed towards you?

@SoupRKnowva, just replace the two monitors with a Dell 38" ultrawide and then you won't have that problem. If you're using dual 24" monitors you may gain resolution this way too. :)

My HD800-JAR created by @ext1 fits my personal preferences at such a high level that it is not likely to be displaced by any other headphone. This is my reference.

JAR660 fulfils a similar role for me. Tone is to die for and technicalities are sufficient, within the context of being fairly source agnostic. I can only imagine what JAR800 out of a high end setup sounds like.

How can we hear one of these and is it better than Utopia? :)

@Merrick Nope! Two channel systems have been something that's eluded me for awhile, I've tried to build them before and ultimately never used them.

I've considered replacing my stock SMPS for my Pi2AES but don't know which one to use. Allo seems to have gone under so the Shanti isn't an option. Do people still like Sboosters?

I used to like the way Sbooster made my system sound but over time realized that it's acually quite noisy. Switched over to Muzg and I'm quite pleased with the result

I bought a Aeon 2 directly from Headamp since I really liked the Aeon. Their return policy was 60 days which was great. I listened to the headphones for a few days and decided it wasn't for me. I sent an email telling them I wanted to start a RMA and they asked "Why!? What's wrong with them?". I told them I didn't like it. Then follow up email made me feel like I was being interrogated for a crime.

Maybe you were supposed to select 2 day even though there was a cost associated, which would have been zeroed at the end of checkout….but then, maybe you were supposed to read minds ;)

@crenca - Mind-reading would come in handy, ha. I definitely wondered if I missed something, so I double-checked before reaching out. Turns out, they offer not just 1 or 2 but *7* different 1 or 2 day shipping options for that item - none free, and ranging from $17 to $96. Honestly, a simple explanation or apology would have gone a long way, but from what I can tell, that's not how they handle business.

That is awesome to hear! Finding awesome is all we need in this hobby.

I hear nothing but great things about the Sparkos opamps.

I don't have a ton of experience other than comparing them to the stock opamps (TI 1656). The difference is there. Between the SS2590 and the 3602 the difference is more subtle, but on longer listening sessions, you get more into things with the 2590. I think it's staging and treble detail without any harshness.
