Just got my pair of Stellia in. Not sure why people call it bassy. I'm not hearing that at all. Does it get worse with "burn-in"?

Ah, that's it.. I tested em on my Phonitor X and had the exact same results, not overly bassy, slightly U shaped signature but very pleasing. Used a JDS atom and they were bassy.

Amp pairings are definitely a factor. Focals (particularly the really low impedance ones) are especially amp-picky in my experience.

Head shape is definitely a factor. I guess fat-heads get phat bass, we pin-heads get thin-bass. With headband adjustment, bass on my pair fits my personal preference profile.

@dematted I understand where you are coming from. However, thr Asgard 3 continues to impress me. I like it a lot with Verite and now HE6SE. I’m thinking of pulling my FS on HE6SE now.

Oh wow, someone better bite on that before you decide to pull it. It's a pretty good price, and I might have done so myself if I wasn't already knee-deep in headphones.

Hopefully the market will weed out the weak performing ones sooner than later. But then comes access to those properties other than pirating.

Congratulations, and welcome to the club. A fully secure position as non-smoker comes in days for some, others have to be on their guard for years.

After nearly three decades, and I can say that I hardly ever even think about smoking, but, amazingly, it will still crop up in a dream once in a while!

      Enjoy the coffee :)

Would the stainless steel Slayer HELL-P record destroy your stylus? Would it have anthropomorphic qualities like hardness and heft?
    1. Thad E Ginathom

Steel is not as hard as diamond. Nowhere near.

I think you would be safe playing a stainless-steel record of anything. Unless it knocks the stylus off its mount.

(pedantic afterthought: yes, diamond is brittle, and, although it can scratch a hammer, the hammer can crush it. So... how hefty are those transients? lol)

In hindsight RobS's engagement with the site went from forum participant to "changes name, new profile pic every 2 days and 5 posts/day" like it was social media. This probably caused positive confirmation bias later countered by negative hyperbole. Doing souce first while not having sampled much gear didn't help either, and we end up with noisy impressions justified after the fact and a lot of dick-measuring.

@Stuff Jones I mean that it was masturbatory. The length of the text and the style of the writing (paternalistic, mannered, over-intallectualized) suggested to me that the author was more interested in indulging himself than in persuading anyone of anything.

Granted, the Utopia is still mega-overpriced at $4k retail. Undeniably actually a good headphone though, and unlike a LCD-4 the Utopia doesn't exhibit insane unit variation. I prefer my Utopia to JAR 600.

I met a few guys who were heavy into stats at the last ZMFestivus and one of these was available. They were probably more proud and excited about these than the Stax they had. Unfortunately, the amp these were supposed to be attached to had to have the bias switched or something so I missed my chance to hear them. They were reasonably comfortable and normal on the head which is a first for estats.
