Listening to some vinyl and a massive thunder crash outside sounded like 18" sub going off inside my head. I might need better isolation!
Zoiks! Unplug everything!
Currently involved in listening to what many have been saying for some time: Saga is more transparent than Freya!!
Anyone else has a disorganised music library where you know you have great songs but forgot the name so they're nowhere to be found?
I've gone with the "worryingly anal" approach to music tagging and organisation in recent years. It introduces a whole new level of nervosa into this nervosa-ridden hobby.
I have to resume indexing again. When I started in this hobby I was obsessed by managing gear, music and software. Making copies of FLAC-rips and playlists always kept me busy. After a while you can do this without software and just keep lists and folders...
Found the song I was looking for yesterday,Richard Grieco & the Dunmore Band - Voice with No Name. One of my recent great songs discoveries. Every time I find a new song I really enjoy I'm reminded why I like this hobby so much, it's not about the gear.
Hey it looks like you have no posts on your profile yet! Just wanted to say, your upcoming headphones look sweeet. Nice work! Wish you all the best on it and in the future to come. Cheers :-)
Haven't been able to listen much lately. Taking a break is good for nervosa. The Lyr 3/AFO combo sounds freaking fantastic.
Beat-up Mirage M190i pair rescued from curb + Class T amp + Chromecast Audio = cheap, ugly Sonos stomper
Trying to write up a dynamic vs planar/mid-fi vs hi-fi roundup. I have a HD650, LCD-2C, and a Utopia. Only thing missing is an LCD-4 ->
Any suggestions on how I can obtain one in London for a week or two without dropping £3.6k? Will even attempt a spidey chart.
Frankly, are you on good terms with any local audio shops? I'm not chummy with the ones in my area (super introverted IRL), but people who earn shopkeeps' trust usually get to loan gear. Would help if you were willing to drop collateral and sign a contract.
Ideally, just ask around here to see if anyone's willing to let go of em for a bit I guess :))
Personal circumstances limit my options quite severely. Usually try to be patient and get a deal on something I can learn the most from, and take my time with. Getting into TOTL gear has made that much more difficuilt and risky.
I imagine liking a post by someone who has been banned to be like a tree falling in the woods.
I like to like a cizx post from time to time, just to let him know we're still thinking about him...
Christmas Eve will always be a special day thanks to CIZX... and that day being Christmas Eve.
The moment when your non-audiophile wife says "you know, I think these new speakers sound better than the previous pair". Priceless :-)
She wants a new car/purse/phone/ring.
I learned non-audiophiles can definitely hear a difference, they just don't care as much. I had my wife listen to a Disney track with my Modi+Dynalo+HD6xx and she said "It's like I am at a concert!"
Just bought a vintage Timex Marlin. Vintage Timex has a simple elegance that is hard to resist...
Vintage pieces tend to wear really well and are smaller than some of the monster 44MM by 16 MM watches made today. I want an elegant piece that tells time, not a brick shiny to impress the wrong sorts of people.
Got a nice sturdy Tissot from my grandpa after he passed away. Nothing uber fancy, but respectable nonetheless. I'll be dead before this leaves my possession, and feel no need to get any other watches (except maybe a pocket watch for my hipster tendencies).
Timeless pieces indeed!
I already have a pocket watch. Mondaine makes a nice one these days but it is quartz and is about 200 Dollars/Euros. A good vintage one in working order can be very affordable. Now I must resist hunting again...
Gotta love Craigslist... https://milwaukee.craigslist.org/ele/d/kenwood-big-boy-speakers-and/6622356635.html
I enjoyed that ad. :)
LH's next ad copy...
LG sounds like a mid tier amp nest to the Stellaris
Had my finger on a used LG once before joining the ZDS club - I will recieve mine pretty soon. Stellaris must be pretty amaze-balls... damn. Have you posted a review? I'd be curious to check it out.
Just had it for a few days. I want to let it settle a bit and then compare it with the Stratus and Teton to get a firm grip of what it can do. Otherwise it will be just drooling like OMFG best mids ever. They are but I want to explain why.
Awesome man, I was also mega-curious about DNA amps! Almost went Stratus, too. Look forward to your thoughts...
beginning that slow spiral into full-blown tube amp addiction
these are fascinating and brilliantly creative recommendations that i will need to carefully consider with an open mind
Naw man, go Big at the beginning and be done with it. You have an Aficionado on order, yeah?
I have to agree with @BillOhio. After owning 7 tube amps and 3 tube preamps the better the amp is built the better it will sound and better tubes make a significant difference. You need a very good 2A3. I have almost the entire family, let me know what you want and I'll give you a friend price.
Damn you, Michael Connelly, just finished my 13th novel of yours and can't stop...love the Bosch inner monologue.
Very cool Tiny Desk this week - The Messthetics: https://www.npr.org/event/music/621342909/the-messthetics-tiny-desk-concert
Fuck, I'm 23 and I think i've developed tinnitus already.
I always listen at extremely low volume too, anytime i ask someone to listen to something they have to crank the volume button up.
WHY ME GOD
Good, now treat your ears to some silence after peak moments of loudness. Some young people do not realise how important their hearing is until they lose it. You can still enjoy music and arts if you take breaks from noise...
Wait until you have 60, and some hemorrhoids pops up...
Booked a Grab (kinda like Uber) ride. Talked solar panels, car crashes, tube amps. He's a Marantz and RCF fan it seems, haha.
@BillOhio Dang, turnaround time was that quick? I'd have thought there'd be a more rigorous screening process given how dangerous these days can be.
And well, yeah, it's a convenient service, so I can see parents letting their kids use it in lieu of a school service or cab. Cabs here in the Philippines aren't spectacular.
Supposedly they had done a background check but how do you do a background check in the U.S. in 5 hours that accounts for my just getting back in to the country from Canada? ... very sketchy.
Wow, that explains a lot @BillOhio
@Lyer25 the taxi drivers OTOH will talk your ear off but they drive like bats out of hell. Typically Didi Select or premier drivers are a smooth ride.
Today i tried a pair of genelec 8050. Today I really understood what depth means. Yamaha don’t hold a candle near genelecs
If it sounds scooped in the mids, maybe you could use the -2 treble dip switch. Yes, the Genelecs can get bit harsher, but the switches helps.
Imo, the 'scooped mid's' have no real workaround in case of 8050-s. It begs for dedicated mid driver there.
Well, 1+8" trades gets you low end spl for those mids. One reason why I’m eyeing the kh310.
