Tire got a nail, broke a can of paint, cellphone screen broken. August FML.
The best bang-for-the-buck upgrade that I've ever done for microdynamics and plankton was listening in a nearly pitch black room.
This makes me even more sensitive to how grey the yggy a1 sounds in my system
I use mostly Schiit gear. Pitch black room is impossible, short of creating a gravitational singularity in my room, which is not the best for acoustics.
Plus, eyelids work well.
Yeah, I cover LEDs that are on. You can still see a little light spill into nearby LED holes.
The HD600 at 21 years old is still more tonally balanced than 99% of headphones. Sennheiser, please teach everyone how to make headphones.
I'd say the HD600 are lacking in bass emphasis, but not lacking in bass (unless used with the wrong amp). The right amp with a good power supply will wake their bass right up, both in impact and presence. I used to think their bass was pretty weaksauce until I heard them on the right amp (Mjo2 or MCTH+LPS). TBH there are times when I wouldn't mind a bit more bass quantity, but I'm happy with the control and slam.
I've heard I was great bang for the buck at 21 years old too. Less feedback these days though. But faster spectral decay...
A LOT of headphones have come and gone, but HD600 has been there since the beginning. I even gave my HD650 away once I heard 600 on the right amp.
I finished the gaming pc again. What interface people around here use for game chat? Built in sounds pretty lame.
I’ve been just using a cheap xlr to usb cable, but I’ve been eyeing the Tascam 2x2 for a while, from what I’ve read it’s the best 1 or 2 input usb pre for mics
I meant to asking about chatting during gaming with the V-Moda boom mic. Good idea with the USB mic.
One of these maybe? https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=headset+to+usb I'm not sure what's available in Finland, but I'm sure you can find the same or similar options. I have no experience with the V-Moda headset or with these adapters to know what'll work best for you.
Aretha Franklin died. Stevie Wonder visited her a few days before to say goodbye.
At first I thought this was some kind of obscure stevie wonder joke and then I realised it wasn’t. A remarkable artist. RIP.
Has anyone tried a HDMI-coax audio extractor? Any better than optical? PS4 optical <<< Gen 5 USB. Before Gen 5 I felt less bad about it.
Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but "Gefen" supposedly makes very high quality products for HDMI bypassing/splitting w/ conversion to S/PDIF Optical (as well as: HDMI/DP to Coax/Optical Outs) but not sure on its total processing latency nor audio related output chip/re-clocker quality.
I never used one myself but heard a couple of uber-rich & super geeky Twitch streamers swear by that brand's quality...
Something like this maybe:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1373909-REG (btw it's cheaper on Newegg atm)
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1122920-REG (this is probably way overkill)
All specs are on the Gefen site.
Or perhaps something like this:
Just make sure whatever you buy has a proper unadulterated HDMI-to-HDMI bypass and/or a 1:2 built-in splitter.
And like others mentioned: its difficult finding proper audio-side S/PDIF de-embedders... w/out some latency issues or horrid re-clocking chips.
Hey Marv, did you ever get around to a DEQ2496 writeup?
Also I'm trying to figure out how transparent it really is (with minimal GEQ/PEQ only). I can't hear much if any difference vs bypass all. @Riotvan still hates it though. Interested what you think.
Clear in the house. Impressions, stock and modded, coming soon.
All power cables tightly twisted for noise rejection.
The magnetic metal mounting hardware for the power transformers replaced with non-magnetic acrylic.
Power transformers floated on multiple layers of cardboard.
I just laughed out loud when I saw who it was. What a putz.
My digital source is an RPi with Volumio. I have it enabled for Spotify. Apple Music sees my Spotify source. Sweet.
Which HAT are you using?
Digione SPDIF Output. I haven't compared it to any other hats, but it blows the doors off any USB I've heard.
Cool! I just picked up the DigiOne player myself a few weeks ago and am very impressed with its sound. Also impressed how easy it is to install the Roon Bridge and get that working seamlessly with Roon (first time trying Roon myself).
Installed new car radio but had to put a peice of wood to block the opening https://imgur.com/a/w0U0Ey8
Old car was Rav4. this is a Subaru Impreza
I'll be darned, that came out kinda nice.
Yeah, better than i thought. Now it's like im in a luxury car with wood trim.
I lost one kitten while I was away. killed by street dogs.
I hope you can get some sleep. You're doing a good thing there (but I don't have to tell you that).
<--- Let this fellow into garden. Although the same water was available in the house, first thing he does is drink a lot. So I guess I'm glad I let him out.
Then he has gone to his hiding place, which is not accessible to me, but at least I know where he is
My daily rituals include browsing CL for speakers. Favorite misspellings include "spreakers", "skeakers" and my personal favorite "sprakers"
Semi-related, but there's a website that indexes eBay listings with probable spelling mistakes for that specific reason.
Now if I only I could remember how I misspelled my bios password.
One guy keeps listing a serge protector on my Craiglist.
Re-watching Yu Yu Hakusho a bit. It holds up better than most anime. That includes Bleach and Dragonball Z. It really is the blueprint...
Never heard of it, but may add to my list. I started the original Dragon Ball series this month and have the DBZ Blu-rays waiting. Always wanted to watch them growing up, but never got around to it.
Just gotta watch boku no hero academia man.
YYH was one of the best shows from my childhood. I've watched the whole thing loads of times and I still plan to check it out again. I think this is the anime that popularised the tournament arc?
Now some popular oat cereals are bad for you, thanks Monsanto
I've been out of the loop w/ all the greedy, horrid & evil shit Monsanto been up to; but regardless:
Could you guys share some pointers, tips or tricks on how to avoid buying & eating Monsanto-made (aka: stolen->modified->patented->sued/fined->re-sold) GMO seeds (cereals, oatmeal, etc) or how to avoid using their carcinogenic ingredients (in household/pesticide/food products)?
Good stores to shop at to avoid it all?
Become a self-sustained farmer and own your land. In the EU for example you still enjoy some protection. In some parts of the world Monsanto is unstoppable.
@A1Gear I guess, don't eat anything with corn in it (almost all gmo now) and go organic when you can I suppose.
This is interesting news from AD: https://ez.analog.com/thread/104552-usb-audio-to-i2s-bridge-352384-32
The big deal is, if AD does this and handles it as most other random companies handle SPDIF, that would be sweet for the DIY folks... As long as one stays with AD, which may be a bit not-so-sweet. Time will say.
This is why I use a Pi and bypass USB and go straight I2S to S/PDIF.
I didn't know, but USB to I2S is lame. Not because it has to be lame, but because it seems the conditions all around were such that it became lame.
I think so far the worst thing about getting older is your friends dying. Another one down today - cancer. 43 years old.
Condolences on the loss.
Please take care
Thanks for the caring words, y’all
Chicago Transit Authority is really a great album. Bold for their first album to be a double (and second, and third) but it really worked.
1. Hardly sexy, more brute, even from a young age
2. When you're young, everything is quality, although I wasn't into any chick with a bigger butt than mine
3. Actually it wasn't Chicago, just fucking with you, it was PC's solo project, but a lot of Chicago ballads were played during "jam sessions" from the era.
Notwithstanding pantie-dropping, it's pretty incredible to consider that the same group who recorded "You're the Inspiration" in the '80s had on their debut album a 7-minute track consisting entirely of Robert Lamm's guitar feedback. Just need Steven Wilson to give CTR the remix treatment.
They knew where the pussy was at, and they weren't gonna get it with super guitar distortion groupies from the 70's, because the chicks fro mthat era were all dead from overdose's or homeless by the 80's.
Just realized that after 3,500 messages I haven't posted on HF for 14 months. Guess the detox is complete!
or you've been silently banned.
Entirely possible! ;)
It’s been about 6 years, but I am making my return to the AD2000. Looking forward to revisiting an old favorite.
Went this route due to my (surprising) HD800 comfort issues. Gap is much smaller than I make it out to be since I had the AD2000X from late 2012 - mid 2017. Purchased when it was released as an upgrade to the AD2000 though it wasn't really an improvement. Either way large portion of that time AD2000X was the golden years where I stopped thinking about trying new gear so often. I've just about reached that point again
Been enjoying your Ad5000x in the mean time?
Very much so! But it definitely took some time to adjust to the treble on the ADX5k.
