I'm sticking with 8.1 until 10.1 or whatever they'll designate it is released...

Speaking of Windows 10, I attempted to update my phone to Windows 10 Mobile from Windows Phone 8.1, and it bricked it. I looked it up and a lot of others had the same happen to them. Luckily Microsoft provided a way to recover phones from your PC that downloads and installs the firmware for 8.1 for the phone it detects.

Nice to know. I use a WIn 8.1 Lumia 640 as my phone cuz it is the only phone (I knew about at the time) other than $600 plus flagships that supports T-Mobiles new Band 12, 700 MHZ frequencies that penetrate buildings better.

Sound quality of the hp pout sucks though and an upgrade to WIN10 might have some goodies like dac out support, but not into being the test subject, thanks for the warning.

I'm using a Lumia 925 on T-Mobile and use www.droid4x.com on my PC... I used to have a droid but I bricked it with no recovery trying to update the binary on SuperSU after rooting it.

Lumia 1020 user here. And I've been with WP since the beginning in november 2010. That was a Samsung Omnia 7 back then. Good phones really, although I think both are rather soft on the speaker volume...

I'm thinking about buying a Pureview 808 since they cost like 130$ now.

I would really recommend to steer clear of any Symbian phones... No applications, no support for modern web standards, no continued development or updates. I know 130$ is temptingly low, but if you're after great camera phones at a low price I believe you'll be able to find a Nokia Lumia 1020 for under 250$ now. Used even 200$ should be feasible. And these are fast, reliable, support modern standards and will actually receive continued software support from Microsoft for at least another 6 months (= Windows Mobile 10 Update I hope).

Update after a few more weeks:

Man, I really love the new window management system. I keep throwing windows around just for the fun of it :) Very functional and quick.

Also: Intel has released the new W10 drivers. Since then my display driver has not crashed once. The system is absolutely stable.
