Will the Orpheus 2 headphone be released independent of the package system?

Well, I will never be able to afford this, and the odds of me ever hearing this are damn near 0 at this point. I don't know how I feel about any of this, but that's a lot of money.

Yeah, and I think it depends on the implementation.

Maybe it'll just be a baseline thing?

I know the HDVD800 + HD800 system is actually quite good. Not the last word on resolution, etc... but it's still a very good pairing. I quite liked it. So it's not like Sennheiser can't design a good Sabre DAC that fits their headphones.

One of the most interesting things about this is that the tubes appear to be new production and not for rolling. Given the price-is-no-limit objective, Sennheiser may have created some truly excellent new tubes. That is exciting, especially if the technology trickles down!

    ....Yes.

Far less likely, but admittedly I am still considering it as an "investment" and "heirloom" I can one day give my children.
Of course with all my medical bills, this is the LAST thing I need to be spending money on, and I'd need to ask my businessman father for a loan, but then after having cancer I'm far more likely to think life is short, we only live once, etc., etc.

Are there 8 people on this forum have $55,000 of scratch on hand?! On a serious note, I am deeply curious about how it sounds. Sennheiser's engineering teams earned a rarefied degree of respect (even the disastrous HD700 was discovered by Tak to be the fault of cheap pads rather than an enclosure mistake), and I'd like to think they can put out a statement product, even if some of the design choices for the casing are....of questionable taste.

Hopefully they'll publish the specs for what's needed to drive the headphones. I want the cans, I don't want the paperweight that they're shackling it to. Will I buy it day one? Hell no, I still need to buy a house! Will I buy some HE90's if this drives the price down? Hell yes. Are all of these things behind updating my PC? Also yes, so very little has changed for me.

The most interesting thing I find about them is that the headphones have a Mosfet amplifier built into them. Explains the round cable.

When the tubes and knobs popped out all I could think of was Austin Powers saying "Do I make you horny, baby?"

I believe Jude's enthusiasm, for but for 55k this might as well not exist for the vast majority of us.

Unless you just really really love headphones you'd think the kinds of people who have 55k in their audio budget to drop on headphones could just as easily go with speakers instead. You could get an awfully nice 2-channel speaker rig for 55k.

Hey me too! To be fair, I probably just picked the highest for shits and giggles. I didn't realistically think it would be this expensive

By my calculations Sennheiser would have to sell 200 of these direct to make the same profit they've made selling 20-30,000 HD800's. If they plan on selling via dealers they might have to double that number. Pretty sweet deal, as I think they could sell that many in the next few years factoring in people in places like Dubai, Russia, HK, etc. (Assuming it sounds good or develops a reputation for sounding good.)

Yeah, looks like ECC803S / 12AX7's that have Sennheiser branding on them. (I didn't watch Jude's video, so maybe he spoke about them...)

This thing makes me embarrassed to be interested in this hobby. I am sure it sounds great.. but I feel like this is less an achievement of a great product and more of a gimmicky, bullshit, expensive, great sounding product. I personally have much more respect for company's like Schiit, who are able to produce something outstanding in sound, looks, and price.

My favorite thing about this is if for some reason if Marv owned it, he'd mod it. And probably with 1-ply Costco TP.
