Anyone heard of HD 598CS? They were on black Friday sale at $99 and a lot of people ordered during the sale and at that price, it sounds great bargain.

Saw mixed reviews and love to hear what others think about this new headphone from Senns... :)

Yes, I heard it was introduced in India first and was eyeing on it till BF sale. I actually just received it from Amazon today and started burning in.... Very brief first impression is quite positive for me. The bass is tight but punchy that does not bleed into mid much. Mid & high are quite neutral... Comparing with HD600, HD598CS has more bass presence with less resolution & separation but not falling too behind. Comfort wise, I found that it is all day wear comfort level and more comfortable than HD600... Only thing that I do not like is that suede like outer earcup which is collecting dust and pretty sure it will get dirty very soon.

Aornic has a good review comparing them to the open version:

tl,dr: They are more dynamic and have a slight v-shaped signature. They are easier to drive too.

Yep. It is the review that convinced me to make a purchase... I saw other reviews on youtube but the rest were generic and not detailed enough. I do not have HD598 SE so cannot comment on the difference between the two but I agree what he said in terms of sound sig on HD598CS.. :)

I could not find any measurement graph on HD598CS against established model such as 598SE and HD6xx yet. I really wish there are some measurements to understand the sonic differences among different models.....

Yeah - I got one of these too. I mostly got it because my recent attempts to get a closed back can have been stuffed by their tiny ear pads (Nad HP50, Oppo PM3 and even the TH -X00!). The 598 cs is for sure super-comfortable - great big HD 6XX sized ear pads and slightly less clamp that the 6XX's.
I like the sound in general, it's quite rolled off in the treble but the bass to mids sounds pretty neutral. There's a slight but noticeable rise in the upper mids i'd say - It sounds a fair bit brighter than my HD650. It would indeed be interesting to see measurements!

I picked one up on Amazon as well and can't complain for $100. It works very well on conference calls at work--more than one person has commented that it sounds very clear -- better than without using a mic.

As for music, it is a bit bright, but not overly so. I'd love to find a decent full sized open headphone with a mic.

Yes, I also found that it is a bit brighter and i quite like it. It reminds me HD600 which I recently sold. I also have Sony MDR100aap which has mid sucked out and I much prefer 598CS to MDR100aap..

I also tried phone call earlier today and it was quite good and compatible with decent IEM with Mic function..

I picked these up as well - for $100 I thought why the hell not.

My office I was using a pair of closed Momentum 2.0 as I share my office with others. Quick (and measly opinion) comparison with the Dragonfly 1.2 is they are way more relaxed sounding, the bass doesn't hit as deep or as hard, treble is much more smooth and mid range appears pretty neutral and overall pretty good separation.

Comfort-wise, I find the 598 to clamp much harder than the Momentums - really need to try and flex these out. The normal-sized ear cups are welcomed though and the shorter cord is nice for the desk since I don't move around like at my home office. The K7XX is still my most comfortable headphone.

I'll be putting the Momentums for sale soon.

How big are your ears? I thought the Nad HP50 and the PM3 were both pretty good for closed cans. I would've happily kept both but for the aforementioned small pads. They've both got 3.5mm inputs - easy to use with a mic. (This recommendation comes with the usual caveat that these are closed cans and are pretty blah compared to good open cans etc.)

I just opened left earcup to see driver and inner cup and here is the photo.

There was no foam inside that HD558 is famous for hence no foam mod is required. There is a bit of vacant space that damping material can be inside but not sure if it will improve acoustic...

Was planning to pick up the PM-3, but couldn't pass up the 598cs for the price. If anyone knows of a decent full-sized open headphone with mic, please let me know.

5 days non-stop listening with HD598CS and it is now fully broke in and very comfy... AND, love the sound.. It neutral sound with tiny bit of bass boost.. This is definitely keeper for me..

Only downside is that sound isolation is average at the best...

:punk: Wow, Great to see some measurement on HD598CS. Thank you very much for sharing. Quite curious how it compares with well known other Senn 5 series or HD6xx...

I was thinking to purchase V-Moda M100 for fill my occasional desire for BASS.... and just out of curiosity, I tweaked EQ on HD598CS to see how much bass it can produce.. And I was quite surprised quality sub bass it produce.... (Boosted 8db on 32, 64, 128 frequencies and 4db on 256 and leave the rest frequencies flat and played some bass heavy hip hop.. I feel my head rumbling........ It has enough sub-bass to fill my desire and it does not make other frequencies as muddy as I suspected. It may not as good as M100 but but sufficient enough for me ..

I bought and returned the 598C during the BF sale, mainly because I found the sound to be a little unnatural, not very organic, particularly when compared to what I normally listen to (Nighthawk and 650). It's a great value regardless.

Thank you for sharing your impression. :) I personally still enjoy 598C and It is on my rotation and used daily...I actually prefer it to DT1350....
Can you share more impression against Nighthawk & 650? If I understood correctly, NH is warm and quite bassy with mid is recessed a bit comparing with 598C or 650...
