I am in nearfield in a small sound treated room, and i have changed my Monsoon speakers , for a desktop speakers, Mission volare 60, i can compare farfield, nearfield, and headphone, all that was said here about that three ring true BUT, all my system is sorbothanized, and i recently place crystals from the breaker room up to the headphone, and the nearfield listening is the best of the three world....Details ALMOST on par with my sorbothanized he-400 or stax SR-5 with a superior imaging.... I listen most of the time nearfield at low volume and i hear ALL details...The headphone listening is by a SMALL MARGIN superior for voice listening.... Few people know that vibrations and negative resonance, and most importantly EMI plague ALL pieces of gear....Insatisfaction with an already good piece of equipment impose them the upgraditis disease and they fell satisfied by only the most dollars invest gear... A low cost solution with used equipment but with very good product, less than 1000 bucks all in all for me, is heaven IF and ONLY IF the room is treated, the sorbothane applied on all gear, and last but by no way the least different crystals used ON ALL LINKS to treat EMI... I wrote all that for the poor audiophile...By the way i dont use my Kreisel and Miller subwoofer, because with room treatment the sorb. and crystals. all around the place bass and midbass are there(no sub-bass) and the driver of my Mission speakers is only 5 inches....I hear perfectly well contrebass, it not room shaking but it is clear and there...I have purchase this sub-woofer before the sorbothane and crystals installation...No more necessary if you have already bass.... Sub-bass is the lowest and rare note of organ etc...I listen mostly jaz and classic...

My conclusion is : if your speakers are not on par in nearfield with your headphone, one piece or all piece of your system have a problem, or perhaps also the room, the solutions are not most of the time upgrading to costly gear but room treatment, sorbothane and different crystals.... Crystals is the less known of low cost upgrade of all known audio solutions, and magical for cleaning EMI, i have place them even in the speakers ...Sorbothane treat not only but first and foremost the timbre, crystals first and foremost the imaging if placed on all piece of equipment...Dont buy costly audiophile crystals product, buy rough crystals ( mostly colored quartz, tourmalin, amethyst, topaz etc at low cost , they act the same...The beginner can place a one quartz piece (cost one or 2 buck) on the breaker wall of the audio gear and enjoy the astounding upgrade...With experiment the street of paradise would open to you like for me now...

"Everyone has limited knowledge which means that everyone's Truth will be different, but that doesn't make them more wrong than someone else. If a person says someone else is wrong he is wrong himself because he doesn't know that the knowledge of the other person is the Truth for him. But in the end, he isn't wrong anyway because the limited knowledge made him act that way."

Simple like that: buy some colored crystal quartz ( a few bucks) between 1 inches and 2 inches, put them taped on the principal breaker of your audio room, and no need to thank me...

    Alright, moved this here.

If one feels inclined to use crystals to improve perceived audio performance, go ahead. If not, don't and let it be.

I personally don't care, nor see how crystals will affect my reality. But @richard51 seems to think/feel different. Such it is, and I'm happy for him and for anybody else that gets perceived positive results that way.

Well, as far as audio tweaks ago, at least it's relatively cheap? I personally don't see how a quartz gravel base would be a more suitable passive isolator than, say, high density foam or rubber, but... if you think it helps... go for it.

Digging into Geology 101, those crystals you recommend all have different structures. Shouldn't that lead to different effects?

I wonder if the same effect can be achieved using stuff like rice or atamites etc instead of small crystals. Could be interesting.

Effectively none of my crystals treat exactly in the same manner the EMI, the end results are different and experimenting with crystals is key, but in general for first experiment, the cheapest colored quartz crystals on the principal breaker of the electrical panel of your audio room will do the job.... I must say that my experiences with species of crystals is the greatest cheapest upgrade of all my audio trip....For sure if your system is already plague by vibrations the upgrade will be less... My system is treat for the elimination of vibrations with sorbothane already...the sound that come from my speakers now and from my headphone is absolutly no comparison with the same system without crystals....:)

Why not? Surely you've read, thought, and experimented enough to be able to do so?
