Grados are probably worse than Thinkpad speakers.

Elite by being anti-elite (or, in other words, really having no experience or any idea what you're talking about...or plain ol' bad ears). Woohoo!

I think they are, save for stuff like the HP1000.

Both in build quality and sound quality/reproduction, yes. :p

Don't forget comfort. I spent my early days moving from SR-60s to 80s to 125s and never got comfortable. At least they were light weight?

Please don't get me wrong. I can see the appeal of Grado headphones and have owned quite a number of them over the years. They do sound good with certain tracks. They just are not audiophile headphones.

And their build quality, packaging, sound quality and signature, and comfort has an appeal to certain audiences for sure (read: Hipster).

Another appeal is the modding community surrounding it, and certain iterations like the Magnum based woodies and SennGrados sound good. But, they are simply not HIFI, SUMMIT-FI or otherwise, no matter how they are priced.

    Oh it's fine really. :p

Can't speak for other Grados but I agree that an RS1i that I own is surely nowhere near hi-fi (but certainly not low-fi either); this cans simply don't have the articulation (what's the word for it, resolution? resolving power?) to be in that tier.

Comfort factor is certainly low, though when using new pads it certainly improves.

Aesthetically I find it good looking (and the chrome PS1000 also) but visual style is a topic way too subjective to argue.

Build quality is average I guess for a mid-fi cans, but at least the wood cups are nice, no cracks whatsoever, the headband's leather is okay, but the cable sleeve is really really prone to twisting.

The packaging-- the pizza box packaging is horrendous, a 100% utter trash. Unacceptable for a product with such price tag. Insane. Whoever designed the packaging should be send to N.Korean labor camp for such sins upon the product design world.

The hell did I still keeping it then? Sentimental value. That cans accompany me for nearly 3 years through my career and thus my ears just kind of used to that 'Grado sound'. Perhaps that's why I don't find the spike on HD800 irritating...

    Shit, sorry for derailments.

Disclaimer: I don't really know that.

The thing that irks me most about Grado is they've clearly made a significant amount of dough on the products, yet there is nearly zero effort put into technological development and evolution of their product.

Worse than that, the e-series is generally considered to be worse than the old versions for several models.

Srsly?! I did not know that. So, like, the sr80i was better than the sr80e?

Looks like it, considering even at the Grado's 'appreciation' thread @HF the general consensus seems to dislike the e series.
    Well to be honest they improves the packaging, looking like a proper packaging this time so that's a step forward, and the brown leather headband on their RS series are nice looking too;
but I lost interest to try / audition any of them since the new e series carry even a higher price tag; and in some model, significantly higher. Seriously, Grado? Do you realize how bad already is the price-performance ratio for your higher models?.

LOL.. It was the natural progression of the thread. Grados went from not hi-fi to barely mid-fi to lo-fi to no-fi to finally non-existent

The GS1000e is one of the models that gets tossed around as having regressed, the 360e as well. Not sure about the ps1000e, but nobody seems to own the ps1k anyways. Not sure about the RS models, but I'm not a fan of the old ones anyways.

RS2e is now recommended over the RS1e, also the new limited GH1 is highly praised and is supposed to sound good with the G-Cush pads as well.

Do you think what Audeze is doing is much better? Seems to be they're racking up the price for the technological development of theirs.

(serious question, not trying to sound super sarcastic)
