Way late to the party but I met Sonic Defender in person about 3 years back as he's local to me and was hosting a head-fi meet. Didn't strike me as particularly irresponsible or hard to get along with.

I think he just likes flipping cans to try them out. At the time he had a HE-560 which was the hotness of the day but he was planning to sell it.

The only other thing that stuck out was that he likes to listen at very very loud levels that most people (myself included) find uncomfortable for more than a minute or two.

Thanks for reaching out on my behalf. You know, you didn't really need to do this. I don't mind having a reputation as an uncaring a-hole. Really, I don't.

Yeah, I get that, and you, knowing what I do, can understand that. But it's O.K. to let your guard down when it's appropriate. We, and I am including myself, kinda vented our anger at Jude onto this guy. Made some assumptions too. I want to apologize for my comments. I fell prey to that Internet anonymity thing that I hate about this kind of communication. I would never have said what I did to his face unless he showed himself to be deserving of it. You can return now to your online reputation my friend. But some of us know better. |{ Peace. Oh yeah, I owe you a soda.

Keep in mind @chopstix / Canali egged everyone on behind the scenes. Anyone seen his face lately?

UPDATE: Oh wait I see. It's perfectly acceptable to threaten someone with physical violence on HF, as long as the recipient of such threads is an SBAF regular.

Canali posted a couple of times. Ordinary type posts and not in the Z1R thread.

Nice to see sbaf reflect and process the emotional aspects of the thread and respond with authenticity. Also nice to see reciprocation from SD.

Sometimes nice is nice and not so lame.

Damn, I'm glad I read that in the afternoon!

If you blur your eyes enough, everything looks like a spider chart

As above, lol. I'm planning to technovike at 3.00am tonight. Might as well get hung for a sheep as a lamb.

Back to the serious world. Sometimes the arseholes turn out not to be. Or not all the time at any rate. Hat off to Sonic Defender for a noble reply . And we're all areseholes some of the time.

Tourette's aside. Was entirely ignorant about this, but read some stuff recently. We all imagine the old guy walking down the road shouting f**k (Actually, don't make assumptions: might just be a guy who spent some money based on a HF recommendation!) but that's just the stereotype. I know someone who, just occasionally, makes hurtful remarks in public, doesn't seem to quite comprehend if someone says. "might be better if you didn't say stuff like that when the person is six feet away." Not expletives, just ordinary stuff, but stuff most of us wouldn't say in earshot of the subject. What I read made me think. No diagnosis: I'm not qualified, but always good to think.

By the way... bought my HD600s, no opportunity to audition, on advice on HF/CS. Very happy with the result. It is not easy to give advice of this kind. How to get inside somebody's head and know what they want to hear!

Missed the initial memo and have spent the last 3-4 days trying to catch up with this seemingly never-ending drama. In the end, I think the most interesting thing I learned was "Technoviking"

@Thad E Ginathom I think we live in very different but similarly isolated worlds. You can technowimp, I'll gixxerwimp... :headbang:

Check out Brown's Dictionary of Relationship Terms. Gaslighting took me there.

It's quite good, considering. --- I threw that in because he leaves out damning with faint praise.

Check out all the crap stuff that we all, to some extent do to each other.

OK, first, the above quote, taken out of context, is just plain wrong.

Second, since this is kind of branched into head-fi bashing - I am closing in on 10 years there. Head-fi took me from an iPod and buds to grad 125's and then through a bunch of gear. Too much of it was FOTM. My current rig, while pretty decent, suffers from past FOTM cans and maybe amp, but both are decent (actually the Liquid Crimson is pretty damned nice to me). Why the editorial? HF has had a slow decline into a much more commercial site, with much more noise, and much less useful signal. There are a couple of threads over there I monitor - @baldr and his stream of consciousness, and Jason's thread. The whole don't mention Changstar, don't mention SBAF thing really smacked of 1984 to me, and was one of the signals that the world at HF was changing.

Third - I lurked on Changstar, but never felt comfortable there. I've posted pretty minimally here on SBAF. SBAF's core are not nearly so a-holish and pricky as Changstar. Don't get me wrong, my morbid, well after the fact reading of this entire thread has shed some light. The core is still thick skinned, kind of a-holish. Except when you aren't. Actually a bunch of decent folk, quite knowledgable and definitely irreverent. I'm starting to like it here.

Did I meet you at a meet in Redwood City @aamefford ? It was a few years ago when Chang was still around. I was at the table next to the Eddie Current table. Perhaps not.
