Ambiophonics, you have to try it

I have never seen it before. It wasn't listed in Ambiophonics website. Will download and see if it works as advertised. What was the speaker's angle when you used this plugin?

 

Do the DSP plug ins not require you to move the speakers close together? Just curious.

It does sound strange for sure. I agree with @Serious, it sounds halfway between headphones and speakers. It never felt natural or "live" to me. I enjoyed setting it up and listening for an hour or so but its nothing I'd ever actually use in my home. Plus, having a mattress on its side in your living room looks utterly ridiculous. But the stupidity of it is what motivated me to try it in the first place. My roommate thinks audiophiles are mentally ill so I mostly wanted to see his reaction. I should have taken a picture.

I read it but I am not providing offering any software or hardware except that I am an end user and help other users who wanted try the ambiophonics method. I thought I would explain my position in this thread because that would be a repetition of my introductory.

 

You don't need the mattress with DSP. I have only tried the DSP's mentioned their website and I rate some better than the other. IMO, Minidsp is the best. They have the plugin there. I am using Jriver with ambiodsp VST plugin with SIR2.

 

It will never work with 60 degrees. You have to bring the speakers closer. Recording engineers do use Ambiophonics. Maybe, a few. Award winning Robin Miller is using ambiophonics for his production. It takes time to understand.

Introducing ambiophonics - the latest in bad headphone simulation technology!

 

Bear with me for a bit.

You have a very nice antique table. One of the legs is slightly too short. You make a decision that you can't add padding under the leg because it looks weird, and you cant make the leg longer because you can't match the wood grain perfectly.

You have a few solutions. One is sell the table, and exchange it for something else. It's not the exact same table, but its virtually identical.

Another is to simply cut the three other legs of your table shorter, thus effectively balancing it. A work-around, but a clever one.

The third, which is the ambiophonics approach, is to drill holes in your floor and make the table level that way.



tl;dr- This seems like a needlessly complicated solution for a problem of your own choice (as you are free to take any number of other fairly convenient solutions), which only makes things worse in the long run.

I admire your enthusiasm for Ambiophonics. It is not every end user that gets "an alert" about a product when someone posts about it on the internet. Or thinks highly enough of the product to call it "my system".

Yes, I'm quite willing to take this stuff seriously --- but too lazy to shift stuff around in a house where I don't even have a proper stereo listening space! That's why... headphones, mostly, for me these days.

 

More of a desperate ambassador searching for other users. Hang on to your headphones because I think the Smyth R16 is turning any recordings to binaural like and ideal for those who are comfortable with headphones. I will be joining you soon once their earphones version is ready.

 

I've been following the Realiser for a bit. Would love to hear it. Unfortunately brilliant sometimes = over my budget.
