It would be awesome to start a label and release some much needed remasters with full dynamic range intact.

I'd also LOVE to record some classical binaural albums.

If you guys want me to record you or your band, let me know. ;-)

I appreciate the reply. Guess it's a bit more complicated then ripping your remasters to a new CD.

Man, wish I lived on the west coast to hear some of this.

Ah, I have have similar issues with vinyl, I haven't gone deep with digital like that yet.

I'm going to be making some more vinyl rips here over time, I've been *very* happy with how they've sounded. If you like them we can work something out.

A shame you so far away! I'd love to if anything just learn the process behind recording a good session... though maybe one day...

Still I can't imagine the time it would take to launch a record label... but maybe the community here is large enough to assist in funding such a project!

I just purchased the Saving Cecils Pride collection, it's pretty impressive. Staging is good and dynamics are excellent

though I'm not familiar with the music so it's irrelevant

Yeah,I lost my proper nomenclature as well. I attended the Los Angeles Recording School back in '05, but it's been a while, now...

What is your criteria for remastering something? Certain obvious candidates that have never had a good digital release come to mind (Radiohead's catalog, the aforementioned Californication, etc.), but I noticed in one of the other threads you mentioned you remastered Thriller. I really like the Japanese black triangle mastering of that album (with proper preemphasis correction applied of course), and given your comment in this post, I would guess you have that, so what prompted you to choose it for remastering? I'm just choosing that title as an example since it's one I can think of where a good digital mastering already exists.

Other than regaining dynamics, what else do you try and do when you remaster?

Thanks for taking the time to discuss this!

P.S. If you've done any of Iron Maiden's classic albums, please put those ones up for sale here, even the old EMI CDs could sound better despite being pretty dynamic.

Thanks for the info, LFF. Would you be willing to reveal the original source used for your Peter Gabriel So remaster?

Radiohead was also the first one that came to mind for me. I'd love to hear some great remasters of those.

I am pleasantly surprised at all of the interest in well mastered music. I haven't seen this mentioned all that much around here.

It's more of an SHF thing but I think many members here, especially Friends, know the value of good mastering.

I've always had in interest in well master'd music but didn't know this was a place to discuss it... I have other communities that I discuss mastering quality with

Still a good master is equally as important as what your listening to it with, though thicker more forgiving headphones are a pleasant way to enjoy good music that's poorly mastered

A few really bad albums and reissues made me hunt for the good ones ever after

    Yes, please.

If you're including something by Paul Simon, I'd like to nominate "You Can Call Me Al." (Runner up: "The Boy in the Bubble.")

When another run is available, no doubt I'll be hopping on it. I've loved everything Luis has ever done! Google image search even has the back of my head at the top of the search for LFF Enigma, thanks to @MuppetFace...
