^^ 19 was the only recording that I found listenable. Everything after that was just garbage. It would be amazing to hear those later albums remastered and sounding good. That woman has an amazing voice and it's criminal what her sound engineer did.

edit...just listened to 19 cause it's been a while. It's recorded like I remember but the bonus/acoustic tracks are actually quite a bit better than the productions tracks on this album.

Good to hear on the Adele! Oh man, I'd love that.

Similarly: Taylor Swift. I know, not the hippest to like. But she has some great songs on some horribly crushed albums. Red in particular has some good songs that are just too compressed. 1989 as well - listen to the Ryan Adams cover album and you'll see how much meat is on those bones.

The initial Gabriel release will be delayed a bit. For this first release, we will still provide physical copies. Again, I don't want it to seem that we are in any way negatively affecting the profits of or stealing from the record companies. We need not only to establish complete legality, but also goodwill.

The big change we have planned is that you will have the rip the disc and run a computer program that will process the wave files into Luis's remastered versions. This is another reason why a specific CD will need to be delivered to you since there are at least two CD versions of So. This computer program will change the original wave files according to a specific set of instructions - apply @LFF's special sauce. This way, we are not delivering any derivative works at all. Just a set of instructions to apply DSP, EQ, effects, filters, hand-edits, etc.

Last time I checked, it wasn't illegal to apply EQ or direct edits to the waveforms of music yourself.

Going forward, there will need to be an "instruction" file for every pair of original CD and Luis' remaster edition. These instruction files by themselves will essentially be gibberish that can only be applied to the original media, ensuring that only people who have the specific original media can apply them.

The downside is that there may need to be some limitations:
    1. User will have to rip the CD using EAC (or other approved ripping software).
    2. Only PC / Windows support, at least initially. If someone wants to help out on OSX, I can send pseudo-code (but please, let's talk about this much later).
Please keep in mind that ripping CDs may actually be illegal (UK) at or best nebulously legal (USA), thanks to your piece of shit corporate tool politicians. You can what the f*** you want in Asia. In EU, AUS, and Canada, you can rip for private use.

My wife has a Windows laptop that is quite old, I can try that. It worked to flash the firmware on my GOV2+.

    Pseudocode... :)

But yeah, I'd love be able to help out there. OS X and Linux, too (in case anyone hates themselves enough to use Linux).

Whatever steps that are necessary are fine with me. I am sure Marv knows what he is doing to keep things legal (and the potential problems if things are not).

I feel lucky to have the opportunity to hear LFF remasters.

I'm going to reinstall Windows 10 on a spare laptop I was using for some Linux experiments so I can use this without waiting for an OS X program.

Marv, would you be able to list the specific CD issue for each release in case some of us already own or can cheaply buy a copy? Many of us already have large CD collections and might already own the issue in question, or could buy one easily if it were a common release. Then we'd still be paying you and Luis for the program and the instructions particular to each CD.

@LFF Wow...that difference is astonishing...her Royal Albert Hall Bluray is better but still could use improvement.

I'm done, sorry for the derail.

If MAC users need Windows processing, I don't mind doing it for them if they've paid and have their confirmed copies.

That would be the idea in the future. (It may not matter if we can pay for licensing). But really, I don't want to piss anyone off right now. I am going to repeat myself:

Again, I don't want it to seem that we are in any way negatively affecting the profits of or stealing from the record companies. We need not only to establish complete legality, but also goodwill.

Wow! That is magical? How do you recover the detail in that first spike in amplitude when it appears to be completely swamped and stampeded over?

When I go out and buy music from my youth (80's teenager), I have to go and find CD's pressed back in the 80's and early 90's. Generally, "Used" discs are generally "cheap", about the price of a new "popular" discs at a brick & mortar store.

I wanted to ask a similar thing but not detail the thread: how do you remaster without access to the original mixdown tape/recording?

I think we have enough feedback to analyze. I'm closing this thread and the others. Please refrain from continuing the dialogue while things are figured out.
