Bleh, if you're even vaguely considering the AKG family, skip all the 7## family and get the K612pro instead. Almost half the price, arguably better sound.

I have K7XX, but I just got them for gaming because of the soundstage. Music ain't no fun with them. Cannot recommmend them. YMMV.

    Hey everyone!

I'm wondering if any members have experience with line input transformers from different manufacturers? This will be at the input of a SET tube amp that I am building to convert balanced XLR input to SE to be routed to the input tubes. @Marvey I know you have some experience with line input transformers (I see that the Cinemag CMLI-15/15B2 transformers are found on the EC Aficionado amp). Any recommendations as far as which company makes the best transformers? Differences in sound between different manufacturers?

    Thanks!

The other option is Jensen. The Cinemag CMOL 2x600 have better CMRR, but these have issues with the current Yggdrasil / Gungnir Multibit outputs. You can try Sowter (UK) too. Give of all these guys a call. Not a big difference from reputatable transformer manufacturers for 1:1 or 4:1 type for converting balanced to SE. I just go with Cinemag because its a known quantity and lead times are decent for small orders. A lot of outfits kind of go FU for small orders.

Hashimoto, Hammond and James make high end transformers as well.

This is more a question than an answer but I always wondered how the Carnhill transformers would go in an amp. Direct descendents of the Marinair/St Ives transformers used by Neve in the 60s and 70s. Known for being coloured, but hard to say how coloured as they don't seem to have any data sheets available.

Pretty close. The right speaker is maybe 4" to the left and the left speaker is about 8" to the right. Toe-in may be a bit different too but not much. The speakers still aim to a point 3 or 4 feet behind the listening position.

    Hey everyone,

I need help finding a XLR 3 Pin Male to XLR 3 Pin Male Cable and I have done some searches and can only find one company that has them and they are kinda expensive. Does anyone know where I can find this type of cable (about 6 ft or longer) that is reasonable in price?

    Thanks all!

Dyson Audio can make you a cable that would be reasonably priced.

I thought that guy has serious communication and delivery issues? Perhaps fixed, but maybe not.

Any of the pro audio cable guys can make one for you. https://www.redco.com/

Or you can buy one premade probably for less:

I'm not sure how prices compare to Dyson Audio but Blue Jeans of course is always recommended and you can email them with specific requests that they are happy to accommodate.

I think 3 pin XLR male to male is one of the ordering options for interconnects.

thank you @ultrabike, for whatever reason those stores didn't show up, I only saw XLR male to female cables. Maybe I didn't put in the correct search terms. Thank you guys for all of the help!

You can always get the male to female cable and add a gender changer at the end. Therefore you now have two solutions. The prices should be fairly reasonable.

Some guy on reddit has been talking about how BA's are worse than dynamics because of distortion across the board... Like a 20 dollar dynamic driver EQ'ed is better than like a Zeur XR.

    "Yep.

Multi balanced armature drivers are just plain bad compared to a well designed dynamic driver. Dynamic drivers are cheaper to produce and have lower non-linear distortion.

Of course this is the audiophile world so expensive = better even though for IEMs it's not true at all but placebo and post-purchase rationalization say otherwise.

The Sony MH-750 is superior to the $1000 IEMs out there and it only costs $10. The QC is quite bad on it though."

And when I asked about detail retrieval:

"It's better because of the low distortion. Any difference in perceived detail is a result of refereeing frequency response."

I'm now somewhat confused... I would have assumed BA's are harder to implement, but I also would have assumed it can be done... I'm assuming this guy isn't quite right? Or is he on something?

I personally consider /r/headphones to be the slums of the headphone community. It is rife with sophist reasoning, willful ignorance, a disdainful amount of ego stroking, narrow mindedness, and a complete lack of critical thinking.

Reddit is where you go when you get banned from SBAF and HF for being a complete waste of flesh.

So to answer your question, I would take anything you read on Reddit with enough grains of salt to cause fatal hypernatremia.

Only been there when I need to see a link as part of a conversation elsewhere. But no, I'm not tempted anyway --- but I love the way you put that!

    Ok thanks.

It's not that I like /r/headphones advice. But this guy was so adamant I kinda wanted to know wtf his deal was.

I will say I do like /r/headphones as it's an easy way to browse for some cool pics sometimes. But that's about it, I'm not even subbed.

This is just another reason not to lol.
