The more I think about it, Jon Snow's master plan to capture a zombie and present it in front of Cersei doesn't make any sense.

    1) It's obviously going to be a suicide mission from the get go
    2) f**k bravery. You're sending all your best troops for an idiotic mission.
    3) Yes, lets hinge our bets on Cersei having a change of heart. The same Cersei that we've been shitting on countless times during our travels across the seas. The same Cersei whom we ourselves have consistently iterated is a deranged bitch and incapable of mercy or even rational thinking.
    4) Aren't there supposed to be pretty smart people beside Jon Snow? Are we seriously saying not a single dude managed to convince him out of it?

Proud GoT moment. I'm guessing nobody here listens to A Cast of Kings?

Either way, I sent my angry post from a few pages back in as an e-mail. Not only did they read it, but they based a small segment on it.

    Nerd life made.

(All maps are not quite the same, but I like this interactive version of the map: https://quartermaester.info/ )

To me George Martin didn't make much of an effort to come up with the GoT universe.

Westeros is basically an oversized, almost-continental sized version of Great Britain, with Ireland cut off from the map and with the North going about the Arctic Circle. You can even see the Faeroe Islands (Port of Ibben) on its NE. The Scandinavia has been transformed into a bunch of free-floating islands (Braavos, Lorath, Lys, Tyrosh), relatively more to the South, and Euroasia as a gigantic continent on the East, with a slightly beefed up Europe (Pentos, Qohor, Volantis), an island-based Italy/Greece (Stepstones), a redesigned India (from Manarys to Valyria) and South-East Asia (from Mereen to Qarth).

The Unknown Lands is essentially Siberia, and the Shivering Sea is the Arctic Sea, with Arctic perma-frozen to the North of it. In this universe the whole of Euroasia has been slapped an "oriental" character (think the times of the Silk Road), of "weird" peoples and customs, going from more familiar (Greece/Turkey-like in the West, e.g. Pentos) to mind-bogglingly different to the far East (e.g. Astapor or Qarth). Sothoryos is a closed-up version of Australia plus all the adjacent archipelagos.

And in the process Africa got shrinked to the size of the Summer Isles, and the Americas got dropped (or are unknown). We actually don't know if their planet is round or not, and if people tried to sail anywhere to the left of Iron Islands. It's entirely possible the blueprint is from the 14th or something century, prior to the discovery of the Americas, where the known lands, so to speak, were a bit sketchy.

Well, at the very least that's how I parse the GoT maps...

Yeah. Toys-R-Us map is half assed just like Middle-Earth.

I actually feel Toys-R-Us was maybe just the size of England. Given the technology and age, it seems that it has about the right number of kingdoms and population as well.

That is why the situation there reminded me of 11th century Spain. A bunch of kingdoms fighting for control over territory: Castilla, Leon, Galicia, Aragon, Navarra, Portugal, and the Moorish Taifa kingdoms of Al-Andalus. That in itself was a world and indeed a Game of Thrones. There you have the legends of Rodrigo Diaz (Roderick son of Diego/Diago/Iago) el Cid (Al-Sayyid - Lord) Campeador (battle camp doctor). Basically a powerful Castillian mercenary at the service of several christian and muslim kings in the region, that accomplished creating a short lived princeship in Valencia.

Then you have another world which consisted of what it is now known as France and Germany that took a while to unify and with similar problems and it's own Game of Thrones. There you have the 7th or 8th century legends of Charles Martel (The Hammer) and so forth. Basically a prince and duke of the Franks who was the founder of the Carolingian dynasty, that accomplished putting a stop to the Umayyad caliphate from eradicating christian leadership in all of Europe. He also kicked everyone's ass in the region (including Saxons) to unify it (and to control it cuz he was the man).

The kool thing now is that "blood-magic" is real, dragons are here and are awesome, and zombies are the enemy. Jon Snow says they are the first and last enemy. But Jon Snow knows nothing.

I'm actually a bit mad at Jon. WTF was he going to accomplish swinging his sword at a bunch of zombies. They are already dead any way. Viserion would probably be alive if he have kept his kool and hauled ass. What a moron.

    I also blame Jude.

WTF was Jon doing north of the Wall in the first place? To chase, what, zombies? What a moron. I'd say like father... but it's more like uncle, like nephew. Though Ned was his adoptive father...

Well, Rhaegar seemed like a nice guy, but somewhat impulsive.

And yes, going north of the wall to sample some zombies for Saucy was an idiotic idea, sponsored by Tyrion who lately has been a source of idiotic ideas.

Nature sorts itself out. If these rulers are not up for the challenge, then either new ones come that are up for it, or the whole population sorts itself out. IMO these are all issues due to the current writers trying to pull out cliff-hangers to hook people up. It's unnecessary and it takes away from the story.

BTW, weren't zombies just popping out in the north close to the wall, and dead had to be burned or else they turned? Like I said, the current writers are prolly smoking too much pot.

Actually it seems the reanimated corpse was already a wight.

Still, the lately unnecessary cliff-hangers are annoying.

Do you have any clues how Jon snow uncle know the moment to help? Is he commanded by the 3 eye raven?
Also, why he still lives beyond the wall?
Very interesting comparison with Spanish kings in yours last post.

For the finale, I'm expecting 3-6 main, important characters to almost die in stunning ways with dramatic words and music, but for the camera to swing away so we won't actually know for another 18 months...

I wouldn't get my hopes up. Without GRRM's 'foundation', I don't expect we'll see a massive bloodbath in the season finale. Perhaps 1-2 main characters, but no more than that. Have a suspicion it's going to be Sandor, Jorah and/or one of the Stark sisters. Though I wouldn't be surprised if everyone escapes unscathed.

Going by the trailer, I assume Cersei and Daenerys meet at the beginning. There's not a chance in hell that Cersei is going to agree to the alliance. Most likely some cunning plan that will be hinted at, but not fully unravelled until S8. It's highly unlikely any blood will be spilt on this front though... the Cersei vs Dany/Jon arc presumably gets resolve only after the Night King is dealt with.

I'm also fairly confident that the wall will be breached by the end, simply because there's only 8 episodes until this series concludes, and shit really needs to start happening already or there won't be enough time to resolve all the multiple storylines.

I still believe control over Viserion will be contested through some Jon Snow / Bran warging partnership, perhaps as part of the grand revealing of Jon's Targaryen heritage. Doubt they can squeeze it within this episode. Perhaps S8.

One last prediction: Dany will die in the end. She just has to. GRRM will have the final say in it, and Dany sitting on the iron throne is just too unlike his style. The short segment in the earlier episode touching on her heir just seals it IMO.

We can assume he felt compelled to battle his way towards the Night King and end the war once and for all.

Or maybe a devious plan to stumble back to the Wall in shit condition... get Dany's sympathies, and get laid?

Bran seems to communicate with Ben+Jen as did the previous 3-eyed raven. The same magic that stops the Slow Walkers to go through the wall seems to stop Ben+Jen. Otherwise, based on Viserion's fate, things would have been over a long time ago.

IMO, based on the clothing, weapons, structure and so forth, one could draw a comparison with any European large region at some critical time.

I recently read "El Cantar del Mio Cid". A bit dated given it's age. But obviously with a lot of potential. A diamond in the rough as far as legends and stories go. And based on events that did happen.

I would love to see the Saucy and Middlefinger factors disappear. But there needs to be some advance into the Nite Pimp's making some progress into breaching the wall.

The Nite Pimp is supposed to be "the first enemy and the last", so he is the main antagonist. And for 7 seasons he has just been white walking around north of the wall.

I was actually more implying that no one (of real importance) would die (it would just look like they might have) and we'd have to wait forever to find out that they escaped death because the showrunners don't have the balls that GRRM did.

Or perhaps if they aren't smoking pot, they should start. This episode has caused a bit of a row at my house. I'm in your camp Ultra. My wife and best friend are O.K. With how things are developing. I feel a conspiracy to take my Throne from me. (The only one I have is the downstairs toilet) And I will fight to keep it! Seriously they better get Mr. Martin's help with the last season scripts of the show or GOT could go down like the dragon did last week. Emerging as a walking dead version of itself.
