Might need to sell the Jot to buy this and upgrade to Modi Multibit... Must resist! As perhaps adding a Modi Multibit box isn't the best choice. We shall see.

edit: Marv said no one has heard the production version. Deleted impressions on prototype.

I've heard some people think the Modi 2u have a better resolve than the Modi Multibit, but I'm not sure. Personally, I'm considering selling my Lyr 2 + Modi 2u for ~$370 and picking up the Magni 3 + Modi MB. Might be cheaper in the long run, since I can't buy tubes atm anyway.

I have the lowly Modi 2 4396, which I sort of need because of the no-driver mode. I prefer Modi Multibit's cohesiveness and layering, and I think I am hearing some graininess with the Modi 2. But that means I need to buy the Eitr too for its driver-less friendliness.

Just ordered one for my desktop rig: Raspberry Pi, HiFiBerry Digi+ Pro, Modi Multibit, Straightwire MegaLink SPDIF, Transparent MusicLink interconnects, Fulla 2, Sennheiser HD580s.
I spent the afteroon at the Schiitr Sunday and would have bought a Lyr 2 or Jotunheim sans board if they had them in stock. I didn't like the DAC board in the Jotunheim and didn't have an opportunity to hear it in balanced mode.

This was the !CanJam meet last November. I believe it's SE Jot topology, but nothing at all like Jot*. Warmish. Maybe too warm. No one here has heard the production version yet and this defintiely caught me by surprise.

*BTW, there have been at least three accounts that the latest Jot's from the production line sound different. Some people are holding back... @Bill-P? @brencho? @Mithrandir41?

Wow, so it took nearly a year to get to production...I do appreciate the amount of testing and optimization that Jason did to cut down on price while increasing quality though (aluminum schlong-lengthed knob sucks, more girth and less length ftw). Even if it's only a sidegrade to Vali 2 SQ wise, I'd still sell mine to get one just for the better volume pot and lower OI for upcoming low-impedance headphone designs.

It was at the mini meet back in September last year too. I remember Jason mentioning how much warmer it was than the normal Schiit amp. And he was right.

Not sure if this the same as that prototype back then.

I don't have much of a reference point for what Jot used to sound like(if there was a silent revision) , but I don't hear any undue hardness or harshness in the upper midrange /lower treble. Then again, I don't use 800s. It makes my unmodded 650s and Lcd-3s(which have a slight lower treble emphasis) sing.

Makes sense. I read Jason's post on Head-fi, and this was suppose to be the Asgard 3, but he had to use class AB and people who swear by Class A didn't like it.

Yikes... Eagerly waiting for someone confirm this. My jot was purchased on 06/01/17 and I truly hope it's not part of this "different" batch.

LOL. No bad batch. Evidently, Schiit made a running change to address complains about its treble aggressiveness or glare. Supposedly, this aggressiveness is gone and Jot is now has treble as smooth as a baby's butt.

@brencho told me @Bill-P's Jot was considerably smoother than my Jot (first run), and that my Jot (baked in a car in Socal summer and always left on) sounded less aggressive than other early Jot's that he heard. So I am just curious. As a few others said their Jot's didn't exhibit any glare or aggressiveness.

I got mine Oct 2016. My Teak were bright once in a great while, but none of my other cans are. When was the change made? Would love to know if it's before or after mine, as i like whichever version I got... which makes it kind of moot, I'll enjoy what I have.

I have never heard a different one, but mine, which I have had for a week, has a very forward presentation and lots of slam, but I notice no glare whatsoever, and would actually call it pretty smooth on top, from Gungnir Multibit and to hd600.

For what it's worth, the Jotunheim I had didn't have the glare people talked about. I am particularly treble sensitive and was expecting to hear razor blades, but never did. I assumed it was because I was using a non-oversampling DAC with a tube in it and had HD650s running out of it.

Paired with a Saga, it's a really outstanding amp with tremendous detail, excellent slam, and reasonably good soundstage (the Saga is responsible for this).

I'm just too addicted to tube amps to stick with solid state for long.

Yeah, the Jot that I've used several times, supposedly earliest delivery to EU (that is now in @dark_energy's possession) has no glare, only a pinch of metallic hue (''tzzz'') and annoying staging. I thought people mixed up staging problems with tonality or something..
I was surprised to read all the comments about killer edge with HD800 where I heard practically none.

I was looking for a backup/secondary amp for times when I can't wait for the tube amp to warm up etc. I was looking at grabbing one of the MD Cavalli LCX but the Magni may be just too good to pass up. I'd like to see a few reviews but this amp looks to be off the charts for price/performance.

BTW, the Jot that I had was etchy up top and was the reason that I sold it. Would like to hear the "smoother" Jot but for now it looks like I'll just grab the Magni 3.

Curious how the Asgard 2 fits in here in comparison.

Ignoring design and form factor and looking purely at sound, can anyone give a decent comparison between the two?
