He's become a parody of himself. Holy shit what a bizarre performance.

I was able to watch a couple of videos to completion (shocker, I know, but I can be patient sometimes, only I'm beginning to question where I choose to exercise that same patience), but I couldn't even last through half of the val 2 review.

Eh, the amp is pretty as all hell though. Congrats again on the excellent amp, spwath!

As far as Z goes, he's fun to watch and he's a chill and fun guy to be around in person. I consider him a friend, despite our review styles being drastically different. Personally I think his reviews are very misleading, highly inaccurate, and extremely unscientific. But I guess they are entertaining.

I look forward to hearing more amplifiers and DACs, especially after my very recent experience with demoing a Euforia and Amethyst combo for an extended period of time. I've heard a lot of headphones, and not a lot of amps and DACs. When they become as accessible as headphones in terms of me getting review units in, I'll have more of an opinion on them.

Thanks for all the positive feedback in here. I've been thinking about starting a donation-only Patreon for a while now. We'll see. I can't stand Patreons that give paid users significant benefits over non-paid users, with intentional delays of review videos. That's unfair IMO.

And yeah, I used to be on OCN all the time. That was an addiction that is no more. The gaming mice days were fun.

This is particularly galling, since, at least from my experience (and I don't have great critical listening skills yet, but at least I know it), DACs generally require longer listening sessions to get a handle on their sound than amps or headphones. Having some time to sit with the sound and appreciate what you're hearing makes a huge difference in being able to form a proper opinion. Yes, people have short auditory memory...that's what listening notes are for.

Fuucckkkk, I need to start making some shitty audiophile reviews about not being able to hear the difference between a SMSL stack and a tube amp.

Can you borrow all the stuff he's reviewed and give us a better review of them on your channel?

He got his hands on a LCD-4 in his last review.

Not going to lie, kinda of envious he is getting access to all the TOTL headphones to try for days if not weeks on end.

And he no doubt reviewed it based on listening to movie soundtracks, anime soundtracks, video game soundtracks, and an inadequate amp and source for the headphones.

Imagine being an employee at Audeze and knowing that the LCD4 you were assembling would end up at Z Review and be evaluated based on anime soundtracks?

Poor guy whoever sent him the LCD4s, he won't be seeing them for months. Also the fact that Zeos was just sitting there, rambling, trying his hardest to describe what his ears were hearing but couldn't put it into words only shows how clueless he is.
How can people even take him seriously at this point?

Oye, some anime music is actually pretty well produced (if not in the vast majority)! #WeebsArePeopleToo.

Having said that, I'll be the first to admit that most anime junk isn't great for gear evaluation, but there should nonetheless be perceptible differences between cans, if less obviously so between components whose differences are far more subtle than, say, Bose Wireless and an HD800. What _really_ gets me is the above-mentioned use of inadequate amps and sources in his evaluations.

Try months. I've already seen a couple people send him things (including a certain someone who makes headphones) and they not get them back for MONTHS on end. Worse part is...Zeos holds up other people trying to do reviews on the same product.

Hell, I saw one guy almost freak out because Zeos put up the product he sent him on the patreon garage sale (it wasn't his, thank goodness.)

Then why do people continue to send him their stuff?

His reviews aren't smart or incisive, so what do they gain from it?

Do they want to see their equipment sit in the background of his videos for months?

Do they want their equipment handled by a guy who displays anime depictions of little girls in bikinis and underwear on his computer ?

He has a large subscriber/viewer base, as well as a decent patreon. If anything, it exposes people to those products, even if his weird opinions shit on them.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was quite a few people who buy shit that Zeos specifically shits on or doesn't recommend because he's one of those guys you do the opposite of what he suggests.

He also came up at a time where people were tired of being told that "more expensive is better" by the traditional publications or review sites and has capitalized on this group by "empowering" them to think that they won't get fooled if they listen to him, even though they just end up buying what he recommends rather than what the typical sites recommend. He uses key "buzzwords" or concepts that many people just getting into audio will have heard and applies them in a way that they can understand and, therefore, think is correct and logical, even if it is completely wrong. "Blind tests show that people can't distinguish mp3 from FLAC," so it doesn't matter what music you use to listen to the equipment. "Human memory for hearing is short," so the best way to test for differences is to switch between equipment rapidly. His methodology doesn't make sense if you have more experience, but if you are just starting out and have only just started to do some research, you might see his videos and think, "Yeah, this guy knows what he is talking about. He has my back. I'm not going to fooled by those shills again!" Couple this with quirkiness that now passes for charisma on the internet (I would not be surprised if it doesn't translate at all in person), and you have people who will swear by him and follow his every recommendation.

It really is a successful formula that seems to work in other avenues of life. Find a disenfranchised group and sway them with oversimplified or half truths.

You should all be grateful to Z. Some of you enjoy watching him... and the rest of you enjoy trashing him. It's a win-win. :D

The Porker initially misled me into buying the he-400i. What a f'ing nightmare that was OH GOD! He said that the 400i's run fine off of laptops or phones and sound "crazy" neutral. I discovered SBAF a bit too late and paid the price by getting my ears raped by the 400i's...

*note: the 400i's did sound nice in the mids once i eq'd the shit out of them, but eq took away any resolution the headphones initially had.

Here's a typical youtube comment from one of his fanboys... "You are the only equipment reviewer on youtube that I pay any attention to. The rest are just industry pimps."

I suspect a lot of people see his obnoxious delivery style as a sign that he doesn't take any shit or pander to any manufacturer. Sadly, they are the same people that don't know enough about audio to realize he hasn't got a f'ing clue what he's talking about.

Have to say, the scantily clothed anime girls on his screens are bloody scary, almost as much as the fact he thinks it's ok to display them in his videos.

If I remember correctly he did a couple of reviews in his underpants as well, even showed them on video. Bet you liked those. :D
