    Dear @bengyeow:

I'm moving your first two posts on SBAF to the sewer section of SBAF. Your site has some nice content - looks good. But I can't help but not think that you are trying to take advantage of people without giving something back. For instance, your site head-fi.club seems to be ripping off the Head-Fi moniker. Now, I'm not exactly friends with Jude, but you are taking advantage of the hard work that Jude has put into the Head-Fi brand. This is very dishonorable.

Also, your two posts here are just links to your review site, which seems to have zero traffic. You have not introduced yourself, said hi, or even bothered to give us a summary or offer to take questions on the gear that you have reviewed. In other words, you seem to be taking advantage of the much higher traffic here for the benefit of you and only you. This is extremely dishonorable.

Since you are from Singapore, and have an Asian name, I will assume that you are Asian, possibly Chinese. Singapore is an advanced country with good people (and good food). I implore you to stop acting like a communist Chinese without morals, ethics, or scruples. Please be a better example and represent Asians in a better light going forward. Otherwise I will digitally cane you on SBAF.

I expect better from Singaporeans. The mayor of Taipei, Ko Wen-je, had said this:

“For the four Chinese-speaking regions — Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong and mainland China — the longer the colonization, the more advanced a place is. It’s rather embarrassing. Singapore is better than Hong Kong, Hong Kong is better than Taiwan, Taiwan is better than the mainland. I’m speaking in terms of culture. I’ve been to Vietnam and mainland China. Even though the Vietnamese are seemingly poor, they always stop in front of red traffic lights and walk in front of green ones. Even though mainland China’s GDP is higher than that of Vietnam, if you ask me about culture, the Vietnamese culture is superior.”

I just love that kind of brutal honesty without any political correctness or excess pride.

As a Taiwanese-Burmese-Hakka dude with family from Hong Kong and Singapore, I don’t know how cultured I’m supposed to be.

Depends how much lawlessness and chaos you embrace. Taiwanese people can be pretty shitty. A neighbor might poison your dog if you can't get your dog to stop barking in the middle of the night. When I was in Taipei a few years, there was a dude in a supercar driving on the shoulder preventing an ambulance from passing. This dude actually gave the ambulance driver the finger. My cousin while driving his car hit two girls on a moped. One got a broken leg. It was their fault, but they shook him down because he was driving a BMW SUV. It's customary for people who have more means to "help" out victims who are poorer, even if they are not at fault. You do this kind of stuff to prevent retribution, rightful or wrongful. My uncle got kidnapped for ransom by gangsters, but he managed to outsmart them by paying the middleman handling the transaction just a little bit more. Last time I saw him, he had police bodyguard near him at all times.

I've been to HK. It is actually a bit more of a lawful place, mainly because of the British. Lee Kuan Yew (Singapore) fully understood the inherent looserish tendencies of Chinese people, like cutting in line, or spitting on the floor, throwing garbage on the street, so he went full Death Star Emperor after the British left. Caning works. I mean, I already know most of the mods feel that @HitmanFluffy should be caned - but being a smart Singaporean, he knows exactly when to stop.

I tend to think no one hates 中国人 more than 香港人.

Haven't been to VN in a long time, but the joke here goes, "Before crossing the street in Taiwan look left, in HK look right, in VN look both ways." I look both ways here as you never no when a scooter is going to take a shortcut on the wrong side of the road.

True about accidents involving cars and scooters here. The "little guy" always gets compensated by the "bigger guy", even though it's usually the scooter that's at fault.

Rules are followed more in Taipei City, a bit less in Taipei County (now known as "New Taipei City", go figure), and even less elsewhere on the island. I have to make a mental adjustment every time we drive down to Taichung to see the inlaws.

I've been in a taxi that pulled that "shortcut on the wrong side of the road" trick in Shenzhen. Was in a car in Shanghai a few weeks ago driven by a local colleague who made a right turn across the path of oncoming pedestrians. If they hadn't stopped in their tracks he would have hit them. He acted like they were invisible.

Pedestrians don't get much respect in Taiwan either. I tend to take my right of way when crossing the street here, but you have to judge when not to push it.

One should always look both ways since fleshbag VS ton of moving metal is not good for the fleshbag.

As someone who is Asian, and living in Asia, I can see that some of the views in this thread are massively politically incorrect. Whilst pretty much agreeing with them completely. One of the things I like about the culture here is that people don't really do PC, they can be really blunt about some things (whilst admittedly dancing around others)

My only nits to pick would be:

    1. Traffic in Vietnam is polite? WTF was that guy smoking? Okay, maybe the stop at lights, but otherwise it's terrifying.

    2. I don't think Taiwan was ever colonised, it was simply invaded by the Chinese, no?

Edit: Just checking that this thread had been moved into the garbage section. Yes it has, so am not participating in some crazy derail.

Any influence at all would have been erased by the KMT invasion, so I was wondering how Taiwan would fall in the the spectrum of the four countries/cities. I'm completely not edumacated on Taiwanese culture or history though.

I live in South Africa, so I suppose this may be a more vivid issue for me.
