Brief impressions. No treble issues whatsoever with these cans. They are smooth. Bass is definitely well behaved and the wooliess is gone. Definitely sounds clearer but really doesn't resolve more detail. I'm a bit disappointed. Pads looks very similar with the 660's being more beveled on the inside.

We need a dedicated impressions thread now that people have these.

What do you think of the new pads? Much of a difference?

IMG_7795.JPG 650 is oval shaped. These appear round. I don't notice any difference except that new clamping force these damn phones have, wow, I'd forgotten that

As in significant "head in a vise, sorry no Motrin allowed" or more "gentle loving squeee of the noggin"?

I'm particularly sensitive to harsh treble and Heavy Clamping (who btw are supposed to play Coachella next year). Could be my fat head...

Do I have to post how to lessen the clamping force for the 259th time?

Nice picture! That's exactly what I was waiting for. Thanks.

    Interesting to see
    1) we cannot do rear-damping-removal mod any more for 660s
    2) pads clearly look different from 6x0

I'm not so sure. Pads lose a lot of their shape as they age and get smashed down by big, sweaty heads.

They are different pads. A Sennheiser rep confirmed on Ad-fi [link]

Hoping at some point we could order drivers and pads from senn parts department to swap into the other models.

Makes the used market interesting if they're interchangeable. Will people be buying 660s and selling them w replaced 6xx drivers? Probably some will try..

Not really, if you've seen the drivers separate of the "capsule" then it's obvious the 660 looks physically different here. 650/600 otoh actually do look identical.

I think it runs about a buck fitty for a pair of 650 drivers from the parts dept although they will not be hand matched or whatever.

Just wait for the replacement pads for the 660 to cost almost the same as the HD700/HD800 pads because why not.

I've already shipped these off. When I get them back I'll try & swap drivers. Driver on the 660s is part of the capsule held in by clips just like the 650. Sennheiser may have thought of this and made these a different size though

Unless you have a small head, they will probably require careful bending of the metal parts of the headband to lessen the clamp.

The 650 is already more resolving than cans much more expensive so I don't care if it is not more resolving. The clarity improvement and better bass quality sounds desirable though.

I wonder if it makes sense to have both or is the 660 similar enough to supplant the 650
