Yeah as Ravi mentioned I really, really dig the Transparent Zeros. Enough so that I’m not wanting for desktop speakers at all (in fact downsizing that aggressively) and will pinch my pennies for a proper 2-channel way down the line.

When you remove the kickstands they’ll fit into most carry-ons no problem. They’re super dense though, so expect some heft.

The ADC on the analog-in is certainly a potential concern but I do prefer Yggdrasil into that input over the USB/BT. YMMV.

So I bought the Micca MB42X that I mentioned earlier. For the price they sound great but are a bit bigger then I thought. Plus you need an amp. It’ll fit in a suitcase but you won’t have room for much else.

Does this mean you can't skip their DAC?

I believe so. They might do some DSP wizardry stuff inside, so I think everything goes ADC-DAC (or just DAC if its already digital)

    EDIT:
    Reading info, definatly yes.
It uses a digital crossover, so there is DSP.

So then why would feeding it from a nice DAC make a difference? (pardon the naivety).

It is well regarded by many, but the enquirers here want something that leaves space for their spare pair of socks.

Better sound + extra pair of socks = win.

That's what the port is for. You can use the space inside the speaker for storage.

So that's why people sometimes stuff socks in them!

By the way, this part of the thread sent me off to youtube seeking the half-remembered name of a band. It was Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes.

I have the Vanatoo Zeros on hand. I haven't owned speakers since the BW602s so I won't pontificate much, but they sound a lot better than they should at their size. Super balanced and musical with better bass than you'd expect.

Keen to try Vanatoo T0. It is not available outside USA so might have to import into AU. We use 240v here same as UK. Would I need step-down transformer?

When I check their website, the Power Requirements says, "120 VAC ±10% at 60Hz or 220 VAC ±10% at 50Hz". Does it mean that it can be used without transformer?

I think it takes a 24V 2.5A wall wart. The stock one would probably need the step down, but I'm sure you can find a suitable replacement.

Huge Thanks. I always found voltage, Watt, Amp relationship confusing..

Would either one of these two work?

    This or That

    Thanks again. :)

I would go with the second one. Dont want to skimp on current. Also here's the relationship

    P=IV or watts = amps * volts

More on the Zeros. I listen on a large table. I've propped them each up about three inches just on stacks of books and switched the DSP to flat. They sound so open and big now and even though it's a fairly large room the fill it up pretty impressively.

Yeah. I know going gaga over gear is looked at with scepticism, but it blows my mind how you can get this kind of sound (including speakers, DAC and amp) for USD 360.
