Playing on a Steinway for the first time was like moving away from earbuds for the first time. Absolutely gobsmacked. That said, this is "I could buy a new house" kinda money. As much as I'd like to own a Steinway, I'm perfectly happy with owning a couple Baldwins and having a roof over my head at the same time.

edit: although it looks like their little bookshelf speakers are $2k ish? That isn't too bad... and it's super thin which is a rarity.

Depends on who the "W" is! It looks to me like a high-school upcycling project where someone got some cardboard tubes and a can of silver spray paint and went to town...

@captkirk has the wife seen the new(er) ESS AMT speakers? Similar construction (Great Heil, 12" woofer, passive radiator) but much higher WAF. I personally like the look of these even better than the OG 1As.

I think the new design is killer. It still retains some of that early funk.

Fellow speaker-pron lovers, could use some advice. Know this isn't necessarily the right thread, but have a good chunk of 2-channel lovers here with real floor-mounted transducer experience (aka speakers).

Does anyone have experience with the Gold Note XT-7? A friend of mine is considering them and I don't have any primary knowledge (and the main review I see is from 6moons, and I don't always trust their opinion for some reason...

If you do, please PM me, as not to fill up this thread. Alternatively, what's your favorite speaker to pair with tube amps that goes for around the same price as the XT-7's (~$15K)?

    Thanks all

@yotacowboy Can you post the image to imgur? My office blocked it for me, flagging it as spam for some reason.

It's not your office — the link is to a forum website (htguide.com) that doesn't allow direct hotlinks to attachments. It worked for me when I copied and pasted the image url to a new browser window.

Ok progress. I got the Blue Jean Cable speaker wire in and have moved the amps and all non speaker equipment under my hutch which makes it crowded but functional. I know I know don't diss too much on the BJC cable as I didn't want to invest much until the wife was accepting the new study.

I have Core Powers Equicore 700 powering 2 Hafler DH 220's bridged to mono with an Sbooster/Microrendu/Roon endpoint, Ifi/usb ultradigital converter, NAD phono preamp and KAB phono processor.

On top of the hutch I have the Rega P3 turntable with a Shure v15vxmr cartridge and the Lynx Hilo dac also serving as a preamp. The speakers are old Acoustat Spectra 11's with a Velodyne hgs-10.

In terms of sound this exceeds my expectations for the age of the equipment in general (1985 for the amps and speaker and 1999 for the velodyne and rega). Digital sounds best by far and has lots of "presence". I detect some minor veiling on my turntable and will probably get it checked out and tuned up + maybe a new cartridge (although this cart goes for 100's used). Not quite sure what it is but I don't want to paint a picture like the analog sucks because the average person wouldn't know they were listening to a record. I just had a little more expectation for more treble and liveliness for the turntable. Could be the source records as well and will need to play more (ok twist my arm).

Only drew 1 rebuke from the wife so far which was on Herbie Handcocks Chameleon which is a test track for me. The speakers passed this test with flying colors.

Next up is cleaning up the wiring and my study is done. Moving down to the home theater next [IMG].

Oh god... I'd never walk that far to change a CD!

(Actually, is that room as long as thin as it looks, or is it a wide-angle-lens effect? The dimensions seem all wrong o_O )

The wide angle definitely has some kind of effect.

    Hi,

first of all excuse me for not posting a picture but a link. A single picture could not do this system justice, this is grown up, no compromise, passionate DIY speaker porn. English available only through Google translate:

    https://www.fidelity-magazin.de/2017/03/23/goto-hornsystem-der-superlative/

Jaw dropping awesome, this seems to be the closest you can get to a live experience, effortless dynamics, frequency response in hall (can't call this a room) not too awfully flat (+/- 6 dB), no digital hall correction
