I think what's sensible is to keep upgrades limited and meaningful. One of the problems with Yggdrasil Analog 2 was timing. If we'd been able to release it with Gen 5, we wouldn't have had as much pushback. If we'd waited another 6-12 months, we wouldn't have had as much pushback.

Lesson learned: we'll be making sure upgrades aren't stacked within much less than 1 year anymore. Sorry for the trouble, we are sometimes very stupid.

Note to self: Time all my purchases of Schiit upgradeable products to 13 months after the last upgrade.

LOL, sorry, poorly worded: Gen 5 and Analog 2 were, what, within 8 months of each other? Bad, bad Schiit. 13 months ain't much better.

Keep doing what you are doing and you will be just fine. But you already knew that....

I can see how these decisions could get complicated. If you would hold up Gen 5 for Analog 2 you would have to also hold up Eitr or get grief like "Seems like I just bought Eitr and now I have to buy Gen 5 because ...!".

It was more like 3 months if Analog 2 started shipping in October.

Sorry, but I don't like this. Upgrade to your heart's content. Please. The USB gen 5 and the analog board upgrades each would have cost the same as they do today even if they had come out within weeks of each other, me thinks.

I'm not a sophistic idiot, and would rather pay for individual upgrades than a whole new model each time a revision came out. Yeah, shipping sucks, but until they invent teleportation, it is what it is.

Let the crybabies drown in their own tears for all I care.

I'm guessing it is the shipping twice costs that would cause the pushback that @schiit is talking about. If a non-DIY customer shipped their Yggdrasil in for a Gen 5 upgrade and then shipped it in a few months later for a Analog 2 upgrade they might get cranky. It seems like it would make business sense to think about frequency of announced upgrades of the same model.

Whatever they decide, I assume it would be a compromise intended to be in everyone's best interest.

The saddest thing is that we were despicably lied to by @schiit:
If this man states that something is impossible, DON'T TRUST HIM.

I hope you are being sarcastic......

I like it when something that was thought not possible not only becomes possible but is delivered in an upgrade!

I think your timing between upgrades is about right. I personally know you are not milking us. You come out with things when they are ready. That is good even though you may have a couple of upgrades close together occasionally. Put them together when you can but if it does not work get is out as soon as practical. By the way when I upgraded my Bifrost Uber to Multibit it was a huge upgrade and worth every penny. I was just thrilled. My Bifrost did not have USB and while I could have had you put in USB when I went to multibit I chose not to. I just do not use USB only Coax. My next big upgrade will be Yggdrasil which will be part of a main system for two Channel along with Vinyl and my high end headphones. Yes I love the flexibility of the Raggy. My Bifrost Multibit will go to a headphone only system with the Asgard 2 in the living room and will be used with Grados. Grados go great with Asgard 2 by the way. And if you offer another upgrade for the Bifrost Multibit I will be very exited and will be getting in line to get it. May even let you put in GenV usb next time. These are among the reasons why I am a faithful customer of Schiit Audio.

Jason, considering some people were pissed because "2 years ago I thought I bought the best DAC Schiit could make, and now I have to pay over $500 plus shipping to make it best again", even though the damn DACs are marketed as upgradable, shows that you will never please everyone. I think a 6 month separation between upgrades is plenty, and I suspect it's not likely to happen very often (when will 2 separate components of the DAC be upgraded with a short timeframe again?) so I wouldn't worry about it, and just keep doing what you're doing.

A Canadian service facility would be really nice to avoid dealing with customs, and shipping is cheaper for us.

Yeah that would certainly be helpful for us Canucks for sure. I was thinking with the Yggdrasil upgrade it might be cheaper (or close to the same cost) and less hassle for folks up here to just sell theirs used and then rebuy it new...

There's quite a difference between the frequency and advisability of (say) Schiit DAC upgrades once in a blue moon versus some of the crazy Audeze/Mr Speakers "point release" kludges, mind.

Er... This is a $2,400 DAC, shipping cost is around 4% of the DAC's original price for 2 day delivery within the US. Methinks that anyone so cost-sensitive would have had a much bigger problem with the original DAC cost. Not to mention that some of us did not rush to get Gen 5 and so we can get both upgrades in one trip. Those who can't control their purchasing impulses have little call to complain when their expenses climb...
