I never said the underlying opinions certain people have on product they have actually touched and listened to is invalid. I am suggesting the “dicksauce”, as you call it, *is* being overused.

Healthy skepticism is a good thing. But the “healthy” aspect has been debatable lately.

Just ignore the dicksauce. Read it, chuckle, or not. Proceed to next post.

Eh. This isn’t a validation society. There needs to be a sign out front. Along with one of those prank boxing glove things that punches you in the junk when you open the door.

So should I wrap my skepticism in silk brocade? Keep in mind that I never shit on Torq.

I probably would have expressed NOTHING had people not made too much of @brencho's titty twisting.

You guys seems completely unwilling to take feedback. Obviously the core group can't be wrong about any f'ing thing.....

    I'm done with this subject.

No we can't. Call it history, heritage, or tradition.

    Don't forget this.

Seriously. There is Audiokarma, Audio Circle, Six Moons, Computer Audiophile, etc.

As a rando, I’m flirting with a thin red line here and may get banned for saying this, but after reading at least 40% of all posts here at SBAF (but very little from Changstar), I can confidently say the above statement should come as no surprise. I don’t think any of the core members, including Marv/Marvey/Purrin/Purr1n, has ever shown any patience for taking shit. Purr1n personality sort of reminds me of Marv from the Sin City comics/film.

That said, after trawling through many audio websites, the opinions here align the best with what I’ve been able to audition/buy. I recall 5 years ago when I started to seriously go down headphone route (giving up speakers and guitar) HF gave many glowing reviews of Chord Hugo. At the time with very limited headphone experience it sounded good (better than any previous gear) but that wasn’t saying much. But now that I’ve gotten more experience (though still limited) I can clearly hear for myself the major issues with the Hugo (and corroborate all the shit the Hugo gets here).

Maybe it's because I made the transition to SBAF from Changstar, but I don't find this place all that rough. Changstar was a land of wolves. It was beautiful. In that peculiar way the bloodier workings of natural selection can be beautiful.

I got out of the hobby shortly after SBAF took off; now I'm slowly working my way back in. When I started frequenting SBAF again a few months ago, I was legit struck by how tame it is here. But tame wolves are still wolves. They still have to hunt.

Roughly 12 to 6 months ago. Coincidentally, when the surge of headfiers happened.

I might be in the minority and I agree whit a healthy dose of reality but it defeats the purpose of this thread. I left headfi just because I had to read so much crap to get to an actual impression. SBAF was better because it was on point and not too much random discussion. This looks like a hf thread. I don't care how or why Torq got the amp I just want to know how it sounds just because I've been following his posts for some time and I'm curious where it leads him.

This thread has veered off from any type of origional topic far enough. But seems like people complaining about ribbing aren't getting "it", what makes SBAF different from the other places. Chang and this place was born on skipping the audio fluffers and erotic fan fictions on fit and finish. Not every random person who just joined should feel safe to post their opinion and expect a high five. Ocassionally And with daft and context, being a dick is applauded - don't be surprised when it happens or offended when it happens to you. Put on your big boy panties and deal with it.

Torqs writing has brought many people to this site. He has written quite a few words helping people find out about dacs, and probably nudged dozens over the edge into buying yggys and Dave's. Great, but simple reviews turned into epics and George R.R. Martin like waits for useful information of sound. 90% of us here only care about sound. Ugly but sounds good wins over aesthetics. Torq got a piece of Brencho the Torq Slayer and instead of making fun of his tower of EAR, probably decided to stop posting and keep opinion to himself. I think many of us are generally interested in how a $15,000 SET amp sounds, even if we never see ourself purchasing. What would be said about it would help adjust our internal Torq review buffers, and better understand his preferences (more than teak covered sailboats and Agent Provocetuer covered breasts).

Being upset at core of people who try and keep this place honest is silly. If you don't get the joke and purpose of it all, relax and move on.

I suggest a dedicated sub-forum for 'audio porn' is created on SBAF where thousands of words or even posts are allowed without ever getting a clue on sonic qualities of discussed gear. In fact, well thought texts on aestetical and mechanical qualities of volume knobs shall be mandatory, accompanied with no less detailed description on exoticity ratio of given surface finish. I want to visit PornHub less frequently. Thanks in advance for saving me!
