It would very, very (very!) helpful to us readers to have you outline a complete system, with the specific gear used and tweaks applied, and even general comments on what you (and others at these meets) love about it.

    Cheers.

The reason you’re getting this reaction is actually because you seem like a nice person, and your use of language is entertaining. Ordinarily the wolves would have savaged you by now. So if this looks aggressive, consider everyone is actually fighting with themselves to hold back and be polite.

The problem is that everything you have written thus far about audio is self-aggrandizing waffle. Your justification boiling down to “hey, I enjoy finding equipment synergies.” and implying that we don’t do the same thing. It’s nothing new or special. The difference is that people here will qualify what the f**k they’re talking about, give specifics, and give comparisons. Instead of just blustering about their magically unique ability to do so.

So find a thread on something you are familiar with, read the thread through, and “if” you can add anything of value to the conversation then write something there, as concisely as you can, explaining it with all the detail you can muster.

You seem like a really nice guy, my intention here is tough-love should there be a chance of getting through the bravado and there being someone of substance who can contribute.

Sorry to hijack your post but i just want to add to the "and tweaks applied" the "and why you applied them and what results you got from it that made you like those particular tweaks", so we, with less knowledge, can understand better.

@purr1n I stand that there remains an element of skepticism from others on this thread, if only in the sense that there's reasonable doubt insofar as they've been unable to demo these things for themselves. The KISS-modded HD650 produces appreciable changes that manifest themselves in relatively primitive measurements (primitive in that it's generally agreed that there are still many things we hear but can't yet assign numbers to), and are popular for a damn good reason. It's the whole metallurical-alchemical claims that have myself (and presumably others?) raising eyebrows, and the manner with which said claims were presented (again, Action Bronson-esque). It's pretty much as @Elnrik says, the pure hype with nothing to back it up— apart from meeting IRL which isn't doable for many people— is counterculture, and not the fun kind.

But again, I'm deferring to people with more experience listening than I. Be it wizardry or geology or what-have-you, eking out the tiniest fraction of a percent's worth of audible improvement is an integral part of this hobby, though it can, at times, make things far less fun for people who can't enjoy music because they feel there might be too many stray dust particles on their drivers, completely throwing the sound off.

@BIG POPPA Not nice (though I try to be), but as others have opined I just think it's a shame that someone who is well regarded by many might get turned off this place just because they flubbed a bit in their introduction.

Here’s my take on metallurgy - it is the science and mechanics of creating alloys and mixtures of metals, and of heat treating metals. I’ll kind of reluctantly include cryogenic treatment here.

Metallurgy is NOT using such alloys or heat treatments.

So, if @BIG POPPA is using off the shelf cables, connectors and whatever other parts, and experimenting with different combinations, he is a best experimenting and engineering, and at worse flailing and faffing about.

If on the other hand he is drawing wire, heat treating or LN2 dipping connectors, or wire or other components, then he is sort of actively engaging in metallurgy (if he knows specifically what he is doing) or “alchemy” if he does not know specifically, and is just kind of “doing stuff” to do it.

Note that buying and using other’s heat treated parts is not using metallurgy. It may be using the results of metallurgy. In this hobby, I think in most cases, it is buying the result of people doing “something” to increase the sale price....

All that said, I agree with others, the issue we have with @BIG POPPA is a bit in presentation. Ok, a lot in presentation. He has his own thread ffs!

I think @BIG POPPA is probably a cool guy, big personality and I’d love to have a beer with him. I think there would be a bunch of laughs and a bunch of bullshit calling. It would be fun.

Sort of like what is going on here, but with beer, and in real time.

Where, no doubt, your strong character has the appropriate effect.

I'm not one to go all hydrogenaudio, beating you up with a life-size-cardboard-cutout of Arnie Krueger, and all that sort of stuff, but... do you get blind, level-matched results from your group tests. Because if you do: shout it from the roof tops! Yes, we want to know. And if not, then we back in the land of maybe. And if you are really, really into comparison of things that should not make a difference, on a regular basis, and you never use any sort of blind testing as a useful tool, then I'll simply retire from the conversation unimpressed.

Now, ok, my "sound science" is even more amateur than my "group psychology" science, so I'll go there next.

There are two "problems," here. One is the vague-but-highly-embellished-claims thing. The other. is that this thread is not even about music or audio anyway: it's about you. Plainly, 124 posts in, that is not entirely your fault. But here's my amateur-psychologist view and advice. It won't lead anywhere. In the end, even you will get bored with this thread.

So, if you want to stick around here: try doing something else.

I agree with most peeps here that @BIG POPPA seems like a cool dude and a positive for the community from an organizational and social aspect. However, going from what I'm reading here, I don't think he has a set sound. I don't get into the tweaking aspect as much as he would, but he comes across with living with a certain sound for awhile, gets bored, then tweaks his stuff again to get a different sound and sits with that awhile. Rinse, lather, repeat.

I get that alot of us are that way, but not at the frequency that Poppa here seems to have.

This is sounding more and more like Alice Waters "farm to table movement".... Where I work, We don't harvest our own oysters, My buddie Mathew delivers them. The 180 cups of rice I make everyday comes from bag off the shelf. I am a classically French trained chef cooking Asian food...... Wait a minute, I'm not qualified because I wasn't formally trained in those cuisines? I have been killing it there for years. And I didn't even apply for the job, they called me because someone told them they should.

The main beef with @BIG POPPA is that he posts self promoting ("I organise events!" "I know stuff" "I'm a certified chef") stuff but doesn't back it up with anything. The closest bit of useful opinion is probably "copper is warm and silver is detailed", AKA a gnat's dick away from fuckall.

RE the latest beef: Metallurgy involves the creation. You, as a cook, use rice and food sources from other people. You may pick different rice, or try different seasonings or treatment, but you are not a rice farmer. Or a rice scientist. You're a cook.

    And certainly not a metallurgist.

Yes. That is what 10+ people have been trying to convey.
    Give specifics.

"I combine cables and gear and get good sounds."

Ok. What gear? What cables? Describe the differences with specifics, not just "better." Maybe talk about your journey from the beginning to now and what guidelines or advice.

And don't just dash off some post real quick to get a response in. Like sit down and write something solid that lets us know who you are by talking about the specifics of your gear and your experience with that gear.

In short, stop talking about it and do it. We're on the internet, not in person. You can post whenever and take as long as you need to write something of substance. It's not like we're having a drink and I'm commanding you to pull a rack full of equipment out of thin air.

    Like go read this: http://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/marveys-cable-rolling-adventures.2034/

And compare to what you've told us so far. You gave us the sizzle, now give us the steak.

I'm with @BenjaminBore. Gil, just forget about the credentials.

There are many threads I can see you contributing here. Forget about this one. Instead of describing your tweaking super-powars, describe your actual amazeballs tweaks. What you feel you have accomplished and how. All this in an appropriate thread. Make one if you have to.

Find some of the cable building threads and post some pics, share some of the methods or combos that you want to share, describe some of your systems and what you achieved with them.

Then take a look at some of the food threads here. Give some recommends. Maybe even write a quick step-by-step simple recipe that you feel like sharing (I love oysters). Even start a thread about it if you like. Compare French and Asian cuisines. Share what is transferable and what not.

As far as headphones, describe which ones you like in the appropriate threads and how you managed to improve their sound when pairing with the appropriate equipment.

Forget about Alice Waters and her organic food doctrine. Hell, I don't believe at all in "organic food". I think it's marketing bullshit. Consider my parents are Chemist and to me organic means something with hydrogen and carbon chains (though that's also somewhat arbitrary). Start a thread about it in the right sub-forum if you like. Or start another one about something else. Don't get yourself trapped on this one.

Thank you @ultrabike. This was having too much of a soup opera aura to it. It will be interesting to me to see the actual thoughts behind, around and about his tweaks.

Edit - "soup opera" that was a (sad) good typo...

Should we lock this thread before the self inflicted pain becomes unbearable and unrecoverable? Or has morbid fascination not yet run it’s course?
