Just spill the beans already: you work for Schiit, don't you! Just when Jason talked about how great this device is and how they have many of them around the office and at home.

LOL, we do have a half-dozen of them. But I still use the Stanfords. Mike and Dave are using the Avermetrics, as is our lead analog tech, and three 100%-test automated test stations in production (for Manis, Lokis, and 16-bit DACs.)

We'll share the new APx555 when it arrives. Yeah, we caved on that one after seeing what it can do on a 1MHz measurement bandwidth, and also closed-loop USB.

Funny that the half-dozen Avermetrics together are only a bit more than half the price of the 555.

In short, the Avermetrics are great products. The fact that Dave uses one is telling (after years of carping about the Stanfords, and pining for an AP.) Naomi (our lead analog tech) has been actively giving them feedback on beta builds of the software. They're very responsive, and I hope they do well.

Dibs on the kind offer. I have a bunch of stuff to measure!

LOL! @schiit, in practice, how does the Avermetrics hold up against the AP 555? Is it just the BW, or can it dig deeper in THD+N in the Avermetrics frequency range?

    The basics are:

    1. Stanford/AP analog generator is much better.
    2. Stanford/AP tolerate much higher input voltages (Avermetrics needs padding).
    3. Stanford and Avermetrics noise floor is about the same, Avermetrics needs DC averaging in software and tweaks on averaging to be at par.
    4. 555 is much better across the band in terms of noise floor and analog capabilities, based on our brief demo time.

I can report later when the 555 comes in (it is ordered, takes a few weeks.)

Nice to hear good stuff on the Avermetrics, have been following it coming to market as I'm looking to get one, I don't have the funds for a APx555.... At least not yet.

Now I figure I'd continue from the "Borked Measurements" and "Measurements are Hard"(http://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/measurements-are-hard.5159/page-2) threads here.

These are measurements of the Modi 2 Uber using USB with no Wyrd, Regen, etc. USB straight from the cheapass HP PC. Feel free to compare to the results of the guy who does Audio Reviews using "Science."

Moral of Science: The gear matters, but the guy behind the gear matters more. (It does feel nice that I finally have a decent lab grade equipment.)

NOTE: Nevermind the digital amplitude and frequency numbers in "Notes". I used ARTA as the signal generator. The software is a bit behind with the AverLAB. I actually need to generate something random on the AverLAB in order to get the FFT to work.

Maybe they dig around the recycling cans at Schiit headquater, looking for manufacturing rejects....

Check out this video guys. Examples of how harmonics, distortion, and noise sound like along with the FFTs. The good stuff starts around 2:20. The nature of 2nd harmonic, 3rd harmonic, non-harmonic, noise, and hum are illustrated.
