I do not care where the amp ends as @Magnetostatic_Tubephile has clearly stated he is dumping it (aka: « it’s not me, it’s you »)

HK and the Philippines are practically next to each as the cargo jet flies, it'd make sense for Lyer and I to be adjacent on the list.

(I think you covered this in another post, but just to confirm, shipment out of HK to anywhere else via EMS is not an issue)

That’s quite alright man - happens all the time. I still struggle keeping some of the Balkans straight.
And there is that old joke:

Q: What’s the cleanest city in India?
    A: Dubai...

As an ethnically Indian, second gen Zimbabwean living in Dubai (my third country) I thought that was f'ing funny! Dubai is about 80-90% Indian. The majority of the remainder is Phillipino - @Lyer25 - Kabayan Mafia FTW \/

As far as being your new favorite destination, I’m touched
    EMS it is then!

    Suggestion only, but how does:

South Africa (maybe via me in DXB, happy to receive EMS and handoff to pilot dude, who can return it to me for my leg) > DXB > HK > PHIL sound?

    Cheers,

    Hehehe!

I was saying so that @Lyer25 or friends would find it easier to make a buy decision at the end of the tour ;)

Primary post (#14) updated accordingly, now only awaiting feedback from Scuba. Otherwise we seem to be ready.

Hi everybody! Apologies for not responding ... Been taking a vacation with the family and away from comms and any form of music making gadgets. Damn, this stuff sounds sooo good after two weeks of bush and beach sounds! Some smooth Snowy White blues tunes playing as I type and sounding astonishingly good.

EMS is a no-go ... The local agency is the SA Post Office which is completely dysfunctional as a parcel service and mainly issue motor vehicle licences (when the system is up) these days to cover for another failed state department. Living in Africa is not for the faint hearted!

Getting it here will be easy and relatively affordable with Aramex Global Parcel Service ... No customs issues inbound or out as far as I am aware of on used equipment (classify as computer sound device to be safe). Outbound my pilot buddy can do as long as it is an SAA destination (no Dubai, sorry ... Unlike most here I actually know where it is and been there several times).

If we can sort out the logistics I would also ask for permission to let it do a quick round trip in South Africa under my responsibility ... We have a group of about 20 or so headphone nutters centered in Johannesburg/Pretoria and Cape Town ... Some of them lurk here. And we do have cost effective and reliable third party parcel services (won't let it near the Post Office).

May I suggest the tour starts without me as my arrangements may be a little more complex than most. Then a final trip down south and I will then send to SBAF HQ ... Wherever that may be.

Primary post (#14) updated accordingly, @Scubadude to provide more info sometime later once things are more clear on his side. Let's wait until the end of this week and in case nobody wishes to join at this point, we can kick this off.

@Imraan can already PM me his address in order to let me prepare the package for shipping. Will check the amp as well as the accessories and provide more details on what exactly will be included in the package.

Second post of this whole thread updated with images as well as some guidance on what will be included in the package, what to consider before using the amp etc. Any questions on the topic are welcome at this point.

    The package will be sent most probably this Wednesday to Imraan, stay tuned! :headbang:|{

Thanks for the really well put together, detailed update in the second post Mr Tubephile sir :) I'm all clear on the package contents and basics of operation. Will spend some time RTFMing while the amp makes its way over...it's all about the anticipation as we know! This is going to be so much fun!!

@MrButchi What do you say about renaming this topic to "Worldwide 230V Garage 1217 Sunrise III amp loaner"? ;)

    Received from @Magnetostatic_Tubephile.
No broken glass, and LPS and amp light up just fine, so that's good!
Heading home now, so will try getting noises out of it, and evaluating when I get back to the office tomorrow AM.

I suspect I'll be early for work for the next week ;)

Told ya, fast and reliable. I would ship even way more expensive stuff via EMS.

No need to feel stupid, it also took me a while to find out. Just scroll up to the first post of the page and click on "Thread Tools" (and then "Edit Title") button located just above the first post.

Except when I do that, the only option I get is « add poll ».
    No title edit :(

This is how it looks like for me in case of an SBAF thread that was created by me (see the top right section coloured by a yellow marker):

Dont worry about that though - lets keep it as an International loaner in stealth mode. ;)
