Thanks for the well wishers (and also the ill-wishers because as most of you guys already know, I don't give a rat's ass), but I figured I'd give you guys an update here on SBAF so I don't have to respond to a million text messages and PMs.

I had my surgery yesterday for a kidney stone that refused to come out. Interestingly enough, I thought the stone came out in the morning when I was getting prepped, but imaging discovered that it was only a fragment. The doctor wanted to laser beam the rest of the stone stuck up in my ureter, between my left kidney and bladder. There was of course the a small stone in my right kidney that the doctor wanted to treat with ultrasonic shock waves.

Here a photo of the 3mm x 5mm fragment. I have no idea how the rest of the stone looked like, but I can guess now why it got stuck.

Anesthesia was great. When the anesthesiologist started me on it, he mentioned that I might start to feel loopy. I figured I'd try to stay awake as long as possible, like with the drinking games I play with my drinking friends where we keep going for "another". At first, I was like "I don't feel anything". Then in a little bit, I was like "oh I feel it now". Then suddenly, I woke up in the recovery room. LOL. It was like time travel or teleportation. A WTF moment.

I thought the ureteroscopy and laser on the left side would have hurt more during recovery, but it turned out most of the pain was in my right kidney were the doctor used the ultrasonic shock waves. The sonic shocks also injure a lot of nearby healthy tissue as well as breaking up the stone lodged inside the kidney. Seriously, I felt like someone punched in the right of my stomach and then punched me again in the back of the kidney. I pee'd blood for most of yesterday.

But otherwise I feel great now. There's no sense of something sharp blocking something in my left side, which was a constant drainer of energy. The right side is still a little sore, but it's not a big deal. It's like healing from getting punched, as opposed to a mini-dagger stuck inside me for over two weeks.

Is this bad karma for being a dickwad? Possibly. But I'd be a dick over and over again to keep SBAF great.

P.S. Spoke to a lady next to me in the prep room who also had stones in the past. She said the stones were worse than childbirth. So there you have it.

"Kidney Stone Adventures". Wonder whether the concept will be picked up by Nickelodian or Disney first.

Glad that's over with and you are on the mend,

Thought that kidney stones was something trivial to treat these days, with the lasers and the magic rays but
plainly I couldn't have been more wrong.

    And that photo is terrifying!

Anesthesia is wonderful indeed. I remember being put right on another big misunderstanding: his main job is not to keep you asleep, but to keep you alive.

Hope the stones thing is over now, permanently. Wishing you well.

It looks like a CaOX Type IIa according to this (page 1476 of PDF or just scroll down):
    https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S163107481630128X

The uric acid stones look smoother without the spiculated surface showing aggregated bipyramidal crystals with right angles and sharp edges of the CaOX Type IIa.

I suspect too much replinishment after hikes with dark beer and insufficient water.

Three favorite foods of mine: dark beer, spinach, tofu, and beets. I've since switched over to golden Belgian type ales.

In other news, I know most of you North Americans are not into football, that is soccer. The Super Bowl of soccer happened today. Most soccer fans I know wanted Liverpool to win, although we all knew in our hearts that Real Madrid would take it.

This is what happened to Liverpool. Karius, the Liverpool goalie, was retarded, and then had another meltdown to give up the third goal. Heck, I want to kill himself for such slip ups. I'm betting he won't be on the Liverpool team next year. They will probably get another goalie for 55M. Such is the intense competition of soccer, which is 10x more competitive than American Football.

Yes, I feel bad for the dude, but I still want to kill him for such incompetence. I'm sure he won't be showing his face publicly in Liverpool, UK.

LOL, we should have a health section. I found out that kidney stones affect a lot of young people too.

Welcome to the club. I had a similar experience with kidney stones. The first go around with the urgent care facility then ER, with another stone passing normally 2 weeks later. I found out later through MRI there were more stuck in around the ureter. The first time into surgery I forgot what they did, second time the laser wasn't strong enough or they didn't think they could turn it up, and finally the third time when they said f**k it and went full Asteroids on them. That kept me in the hospital overnight.

I left some of the grizzly details out for the really freaked out at heart, but conclusion is don't let this happen to you.

@purr1n good to see you better after the experience.

I think there are already enough prolapse videos online, but we could certainly talk about colon health.

This and prostates could be discussed in @David De Lucena's health advice thread. My flowrate started decreasing last year but my numbers and ultrasound came back normal. Doc said slight enlargement is normal as we enter our "golden years". Will be going back every year or two for another blood test and alien probe.
