Yes it is, you can wear it over ear and behind your neck.

sorry for this probably stupid question, but that is the diffuse field target tuning? how does it sound? Ive been using the er4s for 2 year, but prior to that have no experience with other high quality iem, so all I know is the diffuse field target...

    Tyll explains it here: https://www.innerfidelity.com/content/headphone-measurements-explained-frequency-response-part-one

Etymotic probably has some articles on their site about their version of the diffuse field target. The main gist is how much of a bump at 2.5k is applied to compensate for bypassing the ear. Due to anatomy and hearing variations, some may find the Ety upper mid compensation a bit hot or shouty.

The EDC3 does have a small vocal bump but quickly shelves down everything after that, so it will sound a good bit warmer and richer than the ER4. Or perhaps dulled, depending on your perspective. I think it was Marv that equates the EDC3 tuning to an Audeze type tuning if I’m not mistaken.

Anyone have experience with the Campfire Audio Atlas as yet? I am keen to know how they sound, do they have any hiss like the Andro, what sound signature do they have etc? Can't find much on them at the moment. I'm struggling with a direction to go in, as there seem to be criticisms of many of the IEM's I am considering (Vega, Andro, Atlas). I do not like overly strong bass "thumping" - really bothers me. I was hoping the Atlas would be the best option but I am seeing reports of bass that overpowers everything else. Could it be a burn in issue? Cable? Appreciate any thoughts on these or other flagship IEM's worth considering that are not bass heavy.

Atlas is intended to be the bigger and better Vega, so expect bass. Based on what you're looking for, something else out there might be for you

    First post, yay.

So does anyone here have more experience with the Acoustune HS1551 Cu (https://headfonics.com/2018/04/acoustune-hs1551-cu-review/)?

It was brought up earlier in this thread but then the discussion around it died.

It retails for roughly $450 in Japan, Malaysia etc (Though for some reason it goes for $1,100 on Amazon, what's up with that?).

The few reviews out there say it punches way above its weight and is a rather refined single dynamic driver.

Welcome. I haven't heard it but it's been on my radar for a while. If you do get it please post impressions.

Coincidently I stumbled on this yesterday looking for information on the JVC FD01, another mid-fi Japanese DD.

The JVC FD01 is fantastic. Slight v-shape. Bass is emphasised at the midbass but it is very clean and forward at the same time. Very low distortion bass, it reminds me of the etymotic er4 series. The upper midrange and treble has a brighter emphasis with a great deal of clarity. The background is extremely dark and quiet.

Do note that I drove them with my phone, which has an OI of 3. Might not be the intended signature they were built for. I have to try them again with a low OI source (<1). But I do think its a clean and clear DD. Sound signature somewhat reminds me of the HD800, but nowhere as organic.

Which inserts were you using? (brass, titanium or SS?)

SS. The brass one sounded especially horrible to my ears. Titanium was straight up sibilant

Sounds like the SD02 is the way to go then.

These are quite popular on discord but I don't think any or many here have heard them. I'd love to hear one sometime. Definitely give us your thoughts if you buy them.

I had them and sold them a few weeks ago. I played with them for about two months and then sold them once I heard the Galaxy V1 and Galaxy V2. Best DD I have heard under $500. Bass and treble hit appropriately hard with mids not very recessed at all. They make the Lyra IIs I had not listenable. Decided to sell just because the Galaxy has a very similar sound just better. I highly recommend the HS 1551 CU

Yes I got a pair on the way, I expect to have it in my hands within 10 days time. I'm supremely excited as I haven't listened to an IEM priced higher than the 1More Quad. (Not that price is an absolute indication of performance, but you know)

Seems like the only reason it's not more popular is because most of us can't get it locally for a good price.

a friend of mine got them, i listened to them for a few hours, i am not a fan of the fit, the bass is tuned for warmth so there is a good deal of upper bass resonance, not saying it's bad just not my kind of bass, it reminds me of the sony z7 headphones with less annoying sins, but still there is a cohesion issue between the bass and the rest of the range, which is laidback but with decent timbre (mids up) personally, i would opt for the sony ex DDs or CFA Lyra 2 but i could see JVC Wood lovers might like them.

interesting you found the lyra 2 unlistenable against the 1551 CU, L2 definitely doesnt hit as hard, but i found it to be more cohesive.

Just to be clear, when you say you found Lyra more cohesive do you mean the balance between bass, mids and highs as a whole? Or do you mean how smooth and unnoticeable the transition is between the ranges?

more the former, i found the upper bass on the 1551 cu (over zx300, balanced, high gain) occluded the texture of lower mids and bass, a little one notey. Whereas the lyra 2 while also warm, had better texture and less resonant.
