My mother-in-law is selling what's remaining of my late father-in-law's audio collection.

There will be a garage sale on Saturday June 9 from 7:30AM to 1PM or by appointment before that (and after, but I don't kow what would remain). Pick up only.

The address is 2708 Barcody Rd, Huntsville, Alabama.

Here are the items available: https://photos.app.goo.gl/495W3FuhlyZmGRqt2

Note that these records in the pictures are 78s, not LPs.

PM me if you want to stop by beforehand.

That modded Dynaco 'super tuner' is one of the best tuners ever.
Not that there is much out there in FM radio land to want to listen to, but even so…

I also recognize a bunch of other 'gems' as well.

The magnepans are tempting but given how fussy they can become with age I'd probably be wise to pass. Do you know what model they are?

Anyone know much about that Norman Koren mod on the dynakit amp? Guy seems to be regarded well enough on diyaudio.

Those Maggies aren't that old. They look like they could be original 1.5s or 1.6s. Even if they aren't they're max 25 years old which is well into the "new glue" period. Its the stuff before the Mid-80s that had the problem with voice coils separating from the mylar, due to the original glue formulation.

Thank you all for your support and kind words.

The Magnapans work (I tested them when I was helping clean up), but the ribbon tweeter needs to be fixed.

Is it a real ribbon tweeter? As in they're mounted with screws on the back of the panel? If so, then they're 2.5s. I owned 2.5 and they're very nice.

Whether real ribbon or quasi ribbon, they're fused. Check the fuse first. I found out that my 2.5s didn't like the into to "Chain Saw" by The Ramones....I kept some spare fuses around just for that.

Going by some brief google imaging and the badge placement in the pictures, I believe they are 1.5s, which would be QR tweeters.

Those and that velodyne sub would fill up quite the room...

The ribbon tweeters buzz sometimes, so they may need to be reattched properly. From memory (I had inspected them more closely on an earlier visit) they were yellow in color? Not sure if that helps.

When my father in law was around, he sat me in a chair in the middle of the room and switched from the Tannoys to the planars. I still remember that moment; the realism was amazing. But shift slightly left or right and things change :)

Nothing beat the Tannoys though. A couple of months ago, I drove them back with me and they're sitting in a climate controlled storage room because we don't want to sell them but I don't currently have space for them.

The Dynaco PAS with Norman Koren SPICE mod sounds incredibly good, so if that piece of equipment is working it's a real gem.
