Here's an example for HEX v2, vastly different from v1. The HEX v2 has very similar sound to HEK, which if you go back in some of my impressions, I felt had sort of a "bouncy-bounce" quality.

Now here is HEX v1 which I felt sounded softer and laid back. Definitely more damped. One thing I've noticed about many headphones that sound "soft" is that the first half wave is of lower amplitude than the rest.

This is a cool idea, @purr1n. So you're basically measuring the impulse response, then convolving it with the time-domain tone burst and taking the absolute value of the result? This is kind of like treating the transducer as a filter, in the signal processing sense. The neat thing about this approach is that it's extensible to a wide variety of input stimuli. For instance, you could play in a "chirp" signal (like a log chirp) that swept over the audible range, or some subset of it. That might be a cool way to show both time-domain and frequency-domain performance in the same plot. It would probably be necessary to break up the resulting plot into a few frequency bands so you could "unsquish" the high frequency information. Neat!

Aren't the Susvara and Ether C one-sided magnetic assemblies? I wonder what changes with 2 sided magnetic planars?

Let's play another game. 100Hz bass burst.

One is Craig's unicorn LCD2r2, HD800 stock, and STAX SR2170 system.

Susvara is both sides. Ether C is probably one, given it's light weight.

I'm guessing it's HD800, Unicorn, Stax? Doubt a unicorn would be so slow to catch up, and the weird bounciness of the bottom one just reminds me of how I thought a Stax rig (can't remember, one of the old school rekt-angle ones) sounded. I remember that the HD800 took a bit to "warm up" during cycles. Top remind me of HD650 tbh.

My observer bias says, 800's, stax, LCD2.
Although it might be, stax, 800, LCD2

f**k, my original response was like @Cspirou's but I second-guessed myself. Hats off to you, Sparky :))

I think we can all agree that the STAX is the bottom one?

STAX at bottom. This is lower tier STAX lambda, well known for what @OJneg called "limp-dick" bass. The unicorn LCDr2s from yesteryear were known to have tight and strong bass. HD800 bass is quite good, but still doesn't hit you like a wall as the LCD2r2s so.

Cool stuff right? I'm probably finding cases with stronger correlation, but cool stuff. Retiring for the night. All this stuff is currently hard coded, so I have to change the code to get specific results. Will need a bit more time for something more functional. Things to do are to display a set of burst responses at different frequencies and a sync interpolation function to fill in the dots for the higher frequency bursts.

Thanks Marvey! Really cool stuff and I've not been this hyped over graphs in a while. Might be interesting to build up a library of gear already documented elsewhere on here and make this a routine thing.

Oh, biodyna stuff if possible, please? I'm curious how the X00s and HP-3 are different, since those are my current references along with an HD800 loan (that I returned already but eh).

Tomorrow. Remind me. If I keep working, I will probably screw up something, do something dumb, while coding Whittaker–Shannon interpolation.

@purr1n : are you using octave scripts processing ARTA Impulse Reponses to produce these burst responses?
    Cool stuff!

Looks like fun. Here is a similar thing done with REW's trace arithmetic, also happens to be an LCD-2r2 but measured on EARS.
