If you can tolerate Sichuan style spicy foods, I really like Cafe China on 37th st. between 5th and Madison. Wait times can get long, but you can make a reservation with a party of 6 or more. It also has a Michelin Star if you’re into that sort of thing (the food is still family style though, and the prices are actually reasonable for higher end Chinese food in New York).

Is there still any interest for a meetup tonight with Marv. My Monday schedule is still a bit in flux, but I could try to free up around 7 pm. Do we even have a critical mass of people to do this tonight?

I can meet anytime after 6. This could be a good idea:

If there's interest, we can meet at the Ginger Man for a beer/drink before. @purr1n they have a legendary draft beer selection and it's on 36th Street just east of 5th right near Cafe China.

Not sure if I can make dinner, but I can certainly break away from work for a bit at 6 or thereafter for a drink at Ginger Man. Might also be goood for dinner, but may need to go back to the office (which is nearby). My wife might join me as well, which I assume would be OK.

    Other food options near there:

    1. Xi'an Famous Foods: well regarded hand pulled noodles, dumplings, etc. More casual and cheaper than China Cafe. A good backup option for chinese food. On 34th Street just east of 5th ave.

    2. Second Avenue Deli: if you'd prefer classic jewish deli foods - corned beef, pastrami, brisket, etc. On 33rd Street near 3rd avenue.

Too bad. Hope you had a nice trip to NYC though. Hopefully it will work out next time and we will have more people around as well (it seems like the NYC crew is a bit quiet this week).

Looks like my friend's apartment building won't work. They recently changed their party room policy and they're asking for $250 for 4 hours. I'd still like to try to get a meet going before this year ends, as it has been way too long since our previous meet. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

How many people would it likely be? I'm from Philly but am in NYC all the time and have some ideas of spaces we might use, depending on attendance. Cheers

I checked with my development's office, but they have a similar rate for renting the room, unfortunately, $225 for 4 hours.

If there are 15 people that would be $15PP to chip in...I know I'm not a regular, but I'd be game if that helps.

I agree. Seems like a small price to pay. I can also check with my office. We have a ton of conference room space, but I don't think my firm will be OK with my setting up lots of equipment even over the weekend. Let me see and I can report back.

Would definitely be interested in chipping in for a local meetup! Hoping to try other setups and expand my horizons a little; wondering how the Pendant compares to other amps, since there aren't many impressions floating around currently.

This is a bit of a random request, but does anyone in the NY area have a quality record cleaning machine (something like a VPI HW 16). I just purchased a trove of African records from the 70s that could use a nice cleaning but I’m too cheap to buy a cleaner for what I foresee as a one-time deep cleaning.

In the ideal scenario I would bring the records over for cleaning, rather than borrowing the cleaner itself.

In exchange (?) I have a Fozgometer azimuth thingamajigie I can bring over.
