If you like adventure games then there's huge backlog of titles from the 80s/90s that are cheap now on Steam and GOG. Mostly associated with Lucasarts and Sierra. I highly recommend Grim Fandango. Maniac Mansion 2: Day of The Tentacle is another favorite

I love the Monkey Island games, some of the greatest adventure gaming I've done.

My gaming time is pretty limited these days, which is why I've been console only for several years now. I can really only sneak in 30-60 minute stints a few times a week.

Talos Principle being on PS4 is a huge perk.

This is why I love my Nvidia Shield TV so much. Stream right from my PC to the livingroom, although I still can't get surround sound to work.

On adventure games: Beneath A Steel Sky

A 90s cyberpunk adventure game set in a future Australia where the capital cities have essentially become corporate city states. I can't say much more without spoiling it. Gameplay is pretty standard for the genre. Story and writing are brilliant. Possible to finish in a day if you forget to human for long enough.

I've been toying with getting a Shield instead of building a full HTPC. How's the interface for games and entertainment? Do you have to go to the main PC desktop at all? Does it have an internet browser? Replaying the original Mass Effect series on a big screen would be fun.

The interface is fine. You can launch games either through Steam in-home streaming (and you can launch custom apps as long as they are added to steam, like SKSE for Skyrim) or through the GameStream service that's built into Geforce Experience. Either way it works just fine. With Steam in-home streaming its just Steam Big Picture mode, and with GameStream its a tiled interface. I prefer to use Steam.

I recommend getting the one that includes the new controller, its actually pretty great, although it doesn't have the most amazing standby battery life. I keep a dual USB charger near my recliner anyway so I just leave it plugged in when I'm not playing (its a smart charger so it doesn't kill the battery)

We also use the shield as our main entertainment device, i.e. Netflix, Youtube, chromecast, etc. Its insanely fast and never lags or hangs up, which is good because I have little patience for that, and it can play 4K HDR Netflix, 4K Amazon Prime, etc.

Edit: It also works with Logitech Harmony hub.
Edit2: You can download an app that lets you launch Chrome, and if you have a keyboard/mouse plugged in it works perfectly fine. I use a logitech keyboard with a touchpad off to one side so I don't have to mess with a mouse.

Why the hell isn’t anyone talking about Dead Cells!? This games is glorious! It’s like a mix of Castlevania: SOTN and Diablo 2.

I’ve been hooked on it since full release. I usually don’t go for rogue style games but the difficulty is just about right, rewarding you for progress and giving you more tools to find new approaches to achieve more on the next go. There’s plenty to explore on each run as new sections open up and you experiment with countless really varied weapon types with different builds. You get two primary slots and two secondary, with a really wide array of options, all of which are in constant use and crucial to success. It’s the fluidity of movement and combat that really make it so addictive in that way D2 could be. Plus the graphics and art style are superbly done. It’s a real gem, and if you’re curious about any of the related genres it’s a good one to try out, though it’ll require just a little grit as you get the hang of it.

I love dead cells, been playing it on steam early access since May 2017. I only have about 25 hours on it, most of that was during downtime at work but I haven't been able to beat it yet. The game has come a long way since I picked it up, but it's always been great.

I literally got to the last boss for the first time a few minutes ago. Thought I’d give him a run for his money, now I’m posting here, lost half my health with each strike! Christ, what a Porker. I needed to focus more, to at least last a bit longer and learn more from the fight. Will leave out the bear traps next time, though for the first time I’m finding shields and parrying useful. When facing high level enemies, elites, and some bosses. Stacking damage type enhancers is proving essential also.

For someone who hates replaying the same sections in games, I am sure am eager to have another crack at it.

It's pretty great. I usually end up with turrets and whatever legendary weapon I happen to find during a run. The thing I've found is every run is different and sometimes you get a crazy good weapon that changes your playstyle for that run, making you switch up your mutations and reroll stats.

Excited to see this game coming along!

    (NSFW!)

Game demo contains nude digitally rendered humans, so careful at work / around kids or those sensitive to cybernetically augmented breasts.

I think everyone - yes, EVERYONE - should give Cuphead a try.

An amazing combination of great art style, impressive boss design, fluid gameplay with plenty of customization, and an amazing soundtrack.

Even if you are afraid of the difficulty, or you just not too good at bullet hell, do not worry too much. The game definitely gonna push your bullet hell skill to its limit, but what you learn in that process and the payoff by the end is gonna worth your time.

I'm definitely suck ass when it comes to bullet hell, but it just took me almost 28 hours (double the average playtime according to howlongtobeat.com) and 1041 deaths to beat the game. So if you are struggling or frustrating at any part of the game, please just take:

P/S: Yeah make sure you get the soundtrack as well!

I'm a little bummed third person isn't a toggle-able option, but I get why they did it. I just think it is a little silly to have so much visual character customization for just cutscenes. Enemies look to be a little bit bullet-spongy, but the mechanics look decent. Love the design of the world, especially the npc density. I wonder if this is still early enough in development to implement some of the tech that the new Nvidia cards are making possible to get even more visual pop. In the end, I just hope they create great characters and a deep story like the Witcher series. I love fantasy settings, but sci-fi is my preferred jam. Can't wait.

IMO not having that option in anything that isn't straight up horror or a multiplayer FPS is an automatic fail.

I have strong opinions on the subject...

3rd person perspective drove me insane in Witcher 3, honestly. I'm glad it's first person.

The developers did state that they specifically went first person for immersion reasons, and I can get behind that.

After watching the gameplay demo, I don't see how they could implement a third person option without hurting the actual gameplay in some way.

I would like a third person option when out of combat though. For example, I NEVER use third person view when in combat in Elder Scrolls or Fallout, but I like using it when just walking around town and stuff.

CDPR could design a system that automatically switches and locks you into first person when in combat.

That's why there should be a choice.

At least they go to 3rd person for vehicles.
