it would depend on who did the tuning, which would likely be revealed soon, if they are tuned by bandai-san (ex series, just ear and MA900) then yes, if not, i wouldnt bother. Bandai san is the only one there that is still chasing a linear (ish) tonality, the others are all chasing the xba- z5, z1R type of sound.

Ah damn seems to be tuned by the designer of the A3/N3 Eiji Kuwahara.
I'll keep waiting then, good thing because the IE-Z1R is going to retail for like 1800USD.

Typical Sony pricing model. Mark it up way too much to set it up as a premium item, then sell it for half that 9 months down the road.

I'd love to hear it, but I'm not spending the money for it.

I'm with you guys, definitely not buying at that price. I'll wait for a tour, hopefully, or when price comes down to a reasonably good price. Really want to hear it though.

This is basically why we have we have a loaner program and a part of the reason we are the best.

I'm starting to like the DD IEM presentation. Really dig the IE80 with ports fully open + simbio tips. For some tracks even prefer them to the andros. They just have this visceral impact in the midbass... even though they feel kinda blurry in the treble compared to my BA iems.

Any recommendations for a similar presentation but with better technicalities? Particularly microdynamic contrast and transient response mids on up.

The CA vega was too peaky up top for me, and I'd like to like the atlas but I'm worried about bass quantity. I guess I'll see when it comes on loaner.

    Other options?

When I was upgrading from my IE80 2 years ago, I did some extensive research for the perfect upgrade. From the list, I remember Sony XBA-Z5 and Aurisonics ASG2.5. But ASG2.5 is no longer available. I think Z5 would be your best bet if your budget is not too flexible.

If you are okay with not having a Dynamic Driver for bass, 64Audio U8 and U12 are some great options as well.

Now that I think of it, U12 would be the perfect upgrade to the IE80. You can find used ones for around $1000. You can find my comparison if you scroll down in this post:

    P.S: Don't buy the new IE80S.

Thanks for the insight. I am not looking to purchase any time soon, so budget is infinite. Just wanted to know what was out there in terms of universal fit high end DD iems aside from campfire.

Not interested in BA or hybrid - I've got those bases covered between the andros and tia fourte

One of the reasons I never pulled the trigger on the SE5 Ult was, I wanted to wait for the SE6. But $5400?

But... it has "a shifting, iridescent fabric of sound and chameleon-like sound signature on a completely different level"... so it must be the best evah!

WTF does a chameleon-like sound signature sound like, anyway? It's crap like this that immediately put me off on products. It just screams snake oil.

Purchased the new Fiio FH5 IEMs last week, got them in on Monday. Current hype-pushing from Fiio on HF, but honestly these aren't bad IEMs for $260. Wasn't looking for neutral presentation (V-Shape sound was fine), just something that was good on the go with the wonderfully flawed Fiio X5 3rd Gen DAP that I own. Feels more than $260 for an IEM, but I blame the Chinese manufacturing on that. These won't win any rewards (and shouldn't to be honest), but it's more than enough with regards to how much I was willing to spend on an IEM.

Yes - they have a nice build and generally good freq response. Try (on your X3ii) knocking 1 kHz back by 2dB and 2 kHz back by 4 dB. Basically flattens out the very early rise into the upper mid-range, and takes away some of the mid-range fatigue.

Sure! Normally I hate to use EQ, but I'll give it a shot and see how goes! I don't get too serious on my DAPs when compared to my home setup.
