Most options below $2k are fairly low performance and are all clones of each other. Twelve years ago you could get a Spacedeck or Technodec with arm for around $1200, now they cost more than twice that amount. There's a huge hole in the market for something low cost/high performance.

The prototype Sol is at the Schiitr for anyone to listen to and it's a very high performing table. If they get it to market for the cost of a Vidar or less like initially planned, it will end be being pretty disruptive.

If you don’t mind asking, How does SOL prototype stack up against Technodec, SL1200 mk2, or even vintage Denon DP59L?

I had those and liked them a lot. I moved them on and currently using Rega budget TT while waiting SOL to purchase when it becomes ready.
Curious if it will be side-grade or definite upgrade....

    Thank you in advance... :)

All clones of each other under $2k? Gotta disagree there. A number of pretty diverse options come to mind.

For one thing you have the very unique and excellent sounding Well Tempered Simplex at $1995 MSRP. There is little else like those Well Tempered Tables. That silicon goo can work some magic...

Or there is the direct drive Technics 1200GR @ $1600 or so. Lower down the line, there is the $600 Pioneer PLX-1000 that more closely resembles the original 1200s in price and technology.

Moving over to belt drive turntables, you've got options from VPI with both gimballed and uni-pivot arms (unipivot may be a smidge over $2k).

And then there are the low mass Rega tables, which have a different sound than higher mass designs. Planar 6 comes in under $2k, and Rega has a variety of options below that in price.

Can't speak to other belt-drive options such as Pro-ject, Clearaudio, etc, as I have no experience with them.

Not that I am not also looking forward to the release of the Sol and listening to it. By all means, bring on another Schiit product that excels at its price.

Nothing yet? Hmm. It is now late summer and it should be out to market very soon if official launch is not delayed. The skeleton design with 12" tonearm really something and can't wait to try when it is out to market.. :)

SOL to be out to market 1st quarter next year... And the price will be $699. (1st run can be $1000 to recoop the cost if I got it right?)

What I did not understand is what the floater exactly is which will be additional cost to purchase. Is it 3 x footer that can adjust height on 3 legs?

Tonearm will be just short of 12" and made of carbon fibre as we already know.

(P.S.) Aegir is something I was not aware of and it would be awesome Class A 20wpc at 8ohm in Vidar chassis.

I was under the impression they meant the first run was going to be 1000 units....

    That's what I heard, 1000 units.
First batch arms without cartridges -- to allow early adopters that likely have cartridge preferences.
    Possible cartridges in future runs.

Yeah, it makes zero sense to announce a cheaper price and make the first run more expensive. People would just end up waiting until the price drops and the 1st adopters would be more pissed then people that just missed out on an A2 Yggdrasil.

I wonder if the "Crazy person out East", Mike is referring to, would be Conrad Hoffman?

Thank you... I was skipping the video and misunderstood.. Great to know. The total weight is about 15 lbs. Not too heavy but not light as Rega or Project so international shipping would be quite expensive for overseas buyers... Mike says that it will match with TT at almost 10 times the price so still smokin bargain if it is the case.. Can't wait to try one when it is out.

Well it was also weirdly edited right at that point where he was talking about the price and then right after said how many they were making but you never heard the question so it could easily be misconstrued
