I have been thinking about doing an RMA and just getting the V1's instead, since I at least know for sure what those will sound like.

I was assuming this is the same as the original HE560 in terms of SQ and especially reliability.

Save for the reliability factor, I would just buy a used HE-500 or HE-6 than HE-400i or HE560. Or the new Sundara.

Can anyone here compare the attachment of the strap on the V2 or sundara vs the 400i/560 V1? I'm curious about whether a transplant could be performed.

Oh dear, so the standard "known good used model > new" trick still applies? For shame, HFM, this is not moist at all.

Yeah, the V2 name was tainted to hell by all of us real fast, so they're dropping it like an ugly baby.

    Chifiman strikes again!
LMAO at the price reduction (900$ to 300$), they're a true headless chicken.

Which is the SMC? I have the one with the little 2.5mm connectors (see also HD700) and actually attached drivers which survive a rumble test- and they seem remarkably solid.

Just the word SMC should be banned.

Ah, right. I saw quite a few pairs of HE-560 from the screw-on era with bass rattle issues, though- seems like the gluing was hit and miss at the time or something? Either way, it's a bit crazy to need to be so specific to find a reliable streak- HFM is such a crapshoot.

I'm fairly sure that "SMC" isn't a word.

People still waste time on hifiman headphones, interesting.

Between issues of driver longevity, frame durability, HiFiMan's changing models out like they get paid for each revision that's really just an incremental upgrade, immediately devaluing people's purchases in the process (oh wait...), I can see why people would think it wasteful to invest in their headphones, but at the same time I do think there's something to how they sound.

I've mentioned before that I love the HE1000 v2, and though I'll not pay full SRP if and when I grab a pair of my own, like, ever, until someone makes cans that sound like em yet don't fall apart after two seconds' use then, for better or worse, people'll keep spending wasting money on them.

To be fair I have the HE-4xx, which doesn't suck horribly with the initial investment. But the HE-560 has been a pain since the connector when noisy on me. Ugh.

My 2.5mm HE-560 seems quite happy too and an HE-400i that I used to have was surprisingly decent too- seems like I am on a streak.

Agree! HifiMan is doing something right despite the issues. Someone is listening to them. My two pair both have something about them that is special. The word that comes to mind is "Euphoric"

Any measurements yet to prove that the v2 acoustics are the same as the v1.5?
