oh man, I put the OG's which are the bigger ones - in the back because they are the same size as the V2 Stock tubes that go in the back, on the link in my post above yours @Hands - did I get the wrong amperex orange globes? I wonder why my Amperex orange globes are the same size as the stock V2 tubes that go in the back and not small like the front ones. I got the AMPEREX ORANGE GLOBE 6DJ8 ECC88 VACUUM TUBE 1969 MATCH PAIR- but they are the bigger ones like the ones that go in the back

EDIT: Excuse me all, I am apparently a moron. I DO in fact have the Orange globes in the front and they are the smaller ones - sorry for being stupid.

Yeah I didn't think you made that mistake, because it wouldn't even work if you did that xD

Thank you @Hands - your sarcasm is well-deserved - as I had a momentary lapse of brains for a little bit there. Seriously though, thank you @Hands and @thegunner100 for helping realize my dumb mistake, I appreciate the help.

I've got a second hand Valhalla 2 coming in sometime this week. Pretty curious to see how it pairs with my NFB28 + HD600.

Just got the amp in last night. First impressions with the NFB28's DAC and my trusty HD600's are quite positive. And surprisingly, the Valhalla 2 has given me some good results with my elderly K240 Sextett LP.

Probably better than the balanced HO outputs on the NFB28 eh?

Dunno if I would say better, but it's a nice change. I think I do like the coloration on the Sextett a bit more, but there are pros to each amp.

I remember preferring the Vali to the NFB10-ES2's balanced outputs, back when I had the hd800s. I don't know how good the amp section of the audio-gd's dac/amp combos are, since the NFB10-ES2 didn't have any analog inputs. I do believe that the Valhalla 2 will show its strengths more if you used a different dac from the a-gd though.

I'm interested in hearing what you think about it after you've had some burn in with the Valhalla 2 (unless it's already burnt in)

Does the Valhalla 2 sound resolving and natural?

Yes, both. I have the Valhalla2. It sounds clean, very resolving, and natural. There is a hint of tube wetness, but it is not tubey sounding, not warm per se. Less tubeyish than my Vali 1, and Vali 1 is less resolving.

I agree, though I'm going to experiment with other tubes to see if I can get a warm sound out of it.

I've demoed some higher end delta sigma and R2R DACs already, and I don't find them to be noticeably better than the NFB DAC I have on hand. I'll be giving the Valhalla more time tonight to collect my thoughts.

Get yourself on the Gungnir Multibit loaner.... shhhhh! (We'll do another one in March).

Yeah the Schiit Multibit offerings seem interesting. The 1704 implementations I've tried didn't impress me that much, to be honest.

You've read my recent thoughts I've posted on the PCM1704 DACs?

I think I've glanced over your thoughts on the Master 7. The Schiit R2R tech looks quite different in presentation though.

Valhalla 2 is quite fun so far. The tubes I got from the seller seem to have a midrange push and a bass softness that I find pleasing. Listening to Horrendous's amazingly mastered Ecdysis has been a treat today with my HD600.

The Schiit MB offerings are closer to what the vintage r2r dacs are like rather than the modern R2R PCM1704 dacs. If you've ever heard a PCM63 or PCM1702 vintage dac, then you'll know what I'm talking about. Definitely give the Gungnir Multibit or Yggdrasil a try if you get the chance.

The Amperex Orange Globes are pretty popular around here, and they add a bit of warmth to the overall sound.

Does anyone know which tubes represent which channels? (i.e. if you're looking at the front of the amp, are the left side tubes supporting the left channel?)

I just ordered some matched NOS orange globes and one is humming. I'm having some difficulties cleaning off the leads, so I'd like to focus on the culprit.
