They haven't shipped me a replacement and are dragging their feet. I wouldn't bother until we can validate them

That sucks, heard about the hissing units they were replacing. Already ordered a post-hissing bug pair second hand, if you're going to be in the Boston area I'd offer to let you demo them.

f**k them. They said they'd contact me to swap and nothing. I'm one of the first 15 orders, too. I wanted a review pair. @Hands is waiting.

    Quick summary of Mobius:
    • excellent surround sound gaming headset
    • good movie watching headphone
    • okay Bluetooth playback for non-critical listening
    • decent with 3D off connected via USB using Default
    • Flat is better for 3D
    • Also, turn room size to zero if you find the reverb annoying
It's the best virtual surround implementation I've heard and I used Mixamp, Dolby Headphone, and the HeSuVi program with all VSS filters. Make sure you turn down the room ambiance to your liking with the app. Default room size is too much. Flat sounds best with 3D and I prefer Default for non 3D listening/gaming.

I would be hesitant on buying for full retail price but I appreciate all of the technology that Audeze put in Mobius. For $250 and using them as intended for PC surround sound gaming they are awesome. The mic with USB connection is very good. I've heard people complain about the BT mic quality but I think that's an issue with BT bandwidth and not the mic itself. Mobius would be an okay closed headphone, I would probably take it over Alpha Dogs and TH-X00 but a neutral FR is a very high priority for me.

They will never give you the illusion that someone is actually singing in front of you like ToTL systems. It just won't happen.

    Nice wrap up!

Have you been able to test the quality of the mic at all? Since it's a gaming headset that's kind of important for the full package experience. And most bluetooth gaming mics I've used have been pretty poor.

    Thanks!

I haven't used the mic in it's Bluetooth configuration. It's meant to be used as a PC gaming headset only with surround sound virtualization. Console gaming, it will just be a regular stereo headset that can have the 3D room effect enabled on stereo audio. I never had any complaints when asking people in chat if they could hear/understand me.

Thank you cskippy. This was really needed.

How do you differentiate "excellent" in gaming but "good" for movies? What do you miss for the latter? Maybe I'm reading too much into it. I personally don't differentiate it since the requirements are the same for me and I don't play MP at all in years thus immersion is everything to me. Great soundstage, imaging, separation, extension to both ends, resolution etc.
basically why the HD800 is my main headphone for everything.

There are a couple reasons why Mobius is better for gaming than movies. First, there is a slight noise that is always present, the infamous hiss. My unit may or may not have been recalled (I assume it was), my hearing could be more sensitive than some others or my Mobius simply could have slightly more hiss. I'm not bothered by the hiss as a gaming headset given the virtual surround engagement and voice chat capabilities. Second, with movies, because the voice chat goes away and my interaction with the media is no longer as demanding, I subconciously tune in to the audio cues more thus the hiss becomes more of a problem and turns Mobius into a good movie headphone. Lastly, I find surround audio cues to be far more consistent and better created in video games than in movies. Even in Dolby Atmos films in theatres, the effects are just that, added splashes of audio that at best, fill in a small section between camera cbanges or at worst are thrown in as a gimick sound effect like your typical 3D horror film *insert object that flies at the audience".

Ah, it looks like it will do exactly what I want it to.

Good value? No. The best option right now all things considered? Yep. Especially if you'll use the headtracking like I will.

    Thanks, captain cream!

Now I guess I need to wait for mine to ship.

Just got a prepaid label to send my pair in before they send me a replacement pair.

Once I get the box, I'll forward to @Hands for an official review.

Edit: also, I feel like the early $199 price was just right.

Makes the $399 regular price seem like ass-rape. I'm sure that will piss some folks off.

You know what they say though... better to be pissed off, than pissed on, and if you've been pissed in you know you've been fucked.

I have a feeling these will be popular though, people will be paying the market price. There's no real competition on bluetooth, head tracking and all other features in a gaming headset. Audeze nailed that hole in the market.

Forgive me for being stupid, are you telling me I can hook up the Mobius via Bluetooth to my PS4 for audio?

I don't want to pay full price for this, but if the PS4 part is true, then perhaps I might have a need for one of these things in the future.

I'm not sure. This page should answer any questions you have on Mobius functionality and connectivity:

I tried these out at LA Cam Jam. I think if you got these for the intended purpose of games and movies with occasion music use, then you should not be disappointed. Critical music listening they would fall short.

They need an all black option. This two color choices are to gamer-ish for me. Also I did not care for the pads, they seamed to bottom out and did not conform correctly.

But I did enjoy the demo, and think they would go well while playing on my Nintendo switch, and the occasional air plane flight.

I think a Mark II version down the road would interest me. Right now they are at 70% solution to capture my funds.

Have been playing with them for the last 5 hours, some thoughts:

When dialing in the HRTF head measurements, try tweaking them by ear after taking your initial measurement. The sound changes pretty noticeably with each 0.1'' tick, and I found that most songs sounded better with 0.1'' less Inter-Aural Arc and Head Circumference than I measured.

Room ambiance is pretty fun to use, but as cskippy said the default seems a bit too much for most songs. I settled on 23.4, and even that can sound a bit too artificial on some songs. At 0 they sound a bit too up-front to me, but I'm also a sucker for soundstage so take that with a grain of salt. Some songs can sound pretty cool with a high setting, giving the illusion of a big (though still artificial) head stage, which is fun.

I ended up preferring the music sound profile setting because it adds some bass impact and sparkle back into the headphone, which I feel the 3D effect mitigated. Probably is just a light V filter if I had to guess, but it helps.

Too early for me to post sound impressions, would be comparing against a heavily EQed pair of Eikons so that probably wouldn't be too useful to anyone here anyway.

I'll test this for you. Far as I know, it shouldn't work, as PS4 generally disables non-PS4 (read: Sony) audio blue tooth devices. I happen to have both, though, so I'll give it a shot to see if I can get it work.

    EDIT to ADD:
As I thought, PS4 doesn't support third-party blue tooth audio devices. Confirmed, Mobius won't pair with the PS4. You could still get them to work, using something like the astro mixamp and the 3.5mm connector, but it's up to you whether that was your intention.

I dunno how I'd missed the pre-order for the Mobius, so I'm anxiously waiting for the retail version to hit the stores (both virtual and physical). Gonna use it specifically for gaming and movies, and as a BT stereo headphone when I'm out and about.
