I concur regarding most of the mastering jobs I've heard on vinyl compared to their digital cousins. Cutting and mastering for vinyl requires a little more thought and engineering to ensure the record tracks well, and compression and volume is usually done somewhat tastefully to ensure your sides don't cut too close to the label. With digital, only having to concern yourself with peak volume is a part of what led to the volume wars.

I'm alergic to the likes of Fremer, but, with lots of antihistamine cream to control the rash ;) his tour of SME is well worth watching.

... Pure prejudice. I am absolutely being very unfair. Although I seem to remember that he showed some ignorance of manufacturing that surprised me. I still recommend the videos though!

... and then carry on to part 2.

Looks awesome. Which wire option did you get with the arm? I see they offer a bunch of options.

I just got the default Wand Plus model with Cardas wiring and RCA's. The Plus comes with some upgrades that improve adjustability and usability that I think makes it worth the extra money. The Master has some nifty features like VTA on the fly and additional oil damping but it is a significant jump up in money.

Keep in mind that these arms use the Rega mount so you will usually need to order special mounting plates. Additionally, they use a fixed cartridge mounting position similar to SME arms. You actually have to adjust the effective length during setup for proper geometry.

VPI Scout upgraded to Scoutmaster with VPI Zephyr cart for the source. Turntable Weights brass center weight (this makes my vinyl sound much more vibrant than the stock clamp) and VPI periphery ring.

PS Audio P-300 Power Plant for turntable speed controller behind the rack not pictured.

Mac C2300 for phono stage (same phono section from the Mac C1000 reference preamp) and Eddie Current BW2 for the amplification.

My new VPI Classic 1. I've never seen one of these in the flesh in Australlia and VPI in general is extremely expensive and hard to find here. This popped up on a local stereo classified and I jumped on it. Not sure of the age but it's as close to perfect as I could hope for and came with all acessories, manuals and original packaging. I spent the day polishing the platter and cleaning a few things up. I only have an AT95E on it for now but that will change soon. Sounds great!

It's up and running! And it sounds gorgeous.

TD124/II with Audiomods Classic II Micrometer tonearm and a Benz ACE L cart. Setting up the VTF with the iron platter wasn't that easy, but it's doable with the top platter removed.

My 30 year old Pink Triangle Little Pink Thing. I love it dearly, it was in storage for the best part of 10 years. Finally got to unpack and use it. Had to replace the motor and PSU with a DC setup from PT's current incarnation, The Funk Firm. Also added an Achromat, because why not.

At some point in the past I added an Origin Live counterweight upgrade, it was long enough ago that the dissimilar metals had corroded together while it was in storage. Maybe some day soon I'll replace the arm.

Playing the recent remaster of Sunn O)))'s White 2 on lovely white vinyl ...

For the past few months I've been wanting something better to put my Orbit Custom on. I thought the $20 metal shelving I got at Lowe's looked pretty bad, so I picked up an Ikea Kallax with 2 doors for about $75. Now I just need to fill up the top shelves with records!

Other than getting this dialed in (and some periodic swearing at FEDEX) ... nothing got done today other than spinning lots of vinyl. ...

    Not quite.
He has a bit more of an interest in the ultra violence, and likes Beethoven more.
I want his whole room though, really nice turntable setup.
