Well, I did de-bright this pair a few db relative to the mids by removing one layer of the back damping.

Pretty excited for the Ether 2, we should be getting our demo pair later this month for launch as far as I am aware.

Want to compare it with my Ether Flow which I will do the mod to convert it to the 1.1.

Yes, which I wish I had tried myself! I can imagine that would have dialed them in nicely.

And here I thought my wallet was safe from new headphone purchases for a while...

It's like they knew I hadn't bought a new can in a few months!

    @Ice-man

    Thanks for the impressions.

Could you please link to your impressions/review of the original Ethers from 2015? Just as a reference.

Just when I thought I was almost done buying headphones for the next 5-7 years... was just going to wait for a good deal on an easy listening headphone in the Ether Flow Open, 1 somewhat bass oriented IEM as UM legacy (or whichever one their Singapore exclusive is), and just maybe 1 electrostatic or "save" with a MD x Koss 95x.

I log on today and see this, EFO down to $1600, see new ZMF headphones, realize there are a lot more companies making IEM since I took hooby haitus in 2012 (I knew/expected more but not THIS many more), and check MD to see less than 40 units left on Koss 95x... and now I have to figure out what the "last" headphone and IEM will be all over again while debating if I want to spend my mini-cation $ on the Koss 95x. And of course my wallet is crying too.

@Ice-man - In all seriousness now if you had to capture the "mood" of the Ether 2 briefly, what would you say? Still "easy and relaxing" like the Ether Flow Open was?

Likely not yet, as there are only two or three of us that have one.

Give it time, @E_Schaaf will be your best bet with his Upscale connections.

I got an answer from Dan about the measurements of the earpad opening on the Ether2:

    2.6" tall
    1.8" wide
    1.1" deep

That's cutting it a little close, at least for my ears. I measured my own ears at 2.5" high roughly. Hopefully that translates into a fully circumaural experience without any annoying grazing against the earpad.

There is no "last" headphone. The only way out is to settle on something modest and be happy. There are quite a few peeps here with only HD600, HD650, or ESP950 and are content.

From my painful and unnecessary(!) failures, I highly recommend you not to be lazy. Oversimplification is lazy and extremely dangerous in this hobby. I know several headphones that are expressed with similar wording but quite exclusive among one another - One might like A, but hate B, and A and B can be categorized in similar ballpark!)

For E2, Hands and Ice-man posted impressions. I personally respect both of them. But, before taking their arguments literally, take a crucial look at their previous impressions about other gears that you are familiar with (hd600/650 really serves well for this purpose - reference point. You may also look at their takes about aeon and clear.). You may get some idea how to transform their sentences into your perception.

PS. As an ex-lover/owner of EFO, I am a bit skeptical if efo is "relaxing"..

I believe I have read specs of down to 10hz for these headphones. How does the Why So Serious track fare from the Batman OST please if you get a chance to hear it.

I'm not going to share these publicly, but my measurements of the units I heard all extended well down to 10Hz with no signs of stopping.

    I insist on 2Hz.

As an aside, this 10Hz stuff is just audiofukhead wankery.

as exciting as this is, MrSpeakers is a bit notorious for 'almost overzealous' product revisions, to the point where I am sure they already have some 'planned upgrade' in the works. just take a few blinks to wait out the hype for a bit & there will already be an Ether 2 flow or some other shiny new upgraded model
