    Nah I think that would be something like realizing you need a 60Hz sine wave source to provide the Vidar to begin with, so you use the Modi Multibit to feed the Vidar that's ultimately powering the Modi Multibit like some Ouroboros shit, with maybe an AFG to jumpstart the cycle.

    I hope we aren’t going to get into a shit throwing contest here. There is no need for that. Keep things civil, please. It’s just audio. Thanks.

    I love how everyone immediately starts trying to figure out how to overengineer stuff to throw at a $99 DAC. Not even being sarcastic haha.

    It serves as a sad reminder that some people spend more time on paranoia than listening to music.

    For some of us, the tweaking and endless twiddling of stuff (that we deep down know doesn't really do anything or might even make it worse) is what makes it fun.

    I'll probably do this. Eitr, Modi, Magni cost less than a pair of EML 2A3's or even my Moon Audio Black Dragon cable.

    I'd say Vali 2 based on my preferences, but not everyone wants to deal with tubes.

    I also recommend the Vali 2 over Magni 3 money well spent but you do need to replace the stock 6BZ7 with a better tube like an Amperex 6DJ8 / ECC88. I have both a Magni 3 and Vali 2 I use in my second system with Bifrost Gen 5 and the Vali 2 gets a lot more use than the Magni 3. Frankly I just keep the Magni 3 around in case the Vali 2 breaks and has to be send back for service.

    Schiit has B-stock Modi Multibits available Would buy if I knew for sure they have the upgraded firmware. Since it has been a while since the new firmware was introduced I would assume they do, but Schitt won't confirm or deny, which I realize is their normal policy.

    Based on listening alone, do you think you could tell them apart?

    I wanted to move this here (came from the Magni 3 thread)

    I think I just figured this out. I don't k,ow why I missed it before or how I caught it now. Granted, this is all speculative, but I think...

    M = Master Clock (MCK)
    B = Bit Clock (BCK)
    D = Data (SD)
    W = Word Clock (WCK)

    So yes, probably test points either in production or when things go awry.

    I am joining the Tubes thang. Schiit is sending me a Vali 2 next week. Initially, I am going to use it with my Modi 2 and Wyrd, because I have the Modi MB set-up with a Toslink from RasPi endpoint for my bedroom stack. I found the famed Telefunken tube for $48 and had to laugh, that one tube could cost half as much as the Tube Amp. Before the Magni 3, I had never owned a dedicated HP amp. Now, I am moving to Tubes... and I am finally enjoying headphones. Any tubes that are not real expensive, to try for rolling? Suggestions welcome. Also, sources, I have been looking at Tube Depot, but am open to suggestions. This is all new territory for the Affordable Audiophile.

    I have this existial doubt between Etir and Wyrd with the Modi Multibit. Does the Etir has an advantage over the Wyrd? And if so is it because the coax input in the modi is actually better or the usb5 input in the Etir has more advantages over Wyrd?

    Eitr over Wyrd. Eitr is the Gen5 USB in a box. It does things that the Wyrd doesn’t. Eitr and Modi MB is the better combination. IMHO. But coax is almost always a better input than USB.

    Having sold Gungnir Multibit some months back to fund a 4K TV and shacking up with the DAC in my OnkyoC7030, I've really missed the multibit sound.

    @Joshvar was kind enough to give me first dibs on his modi multibit that he was going to sell and dropped it off tonight.

    The xylophone hits on Steely Dan's "razor boy" already sound more correct. That burrito filter staging and organic "rightness" is back. The DS glare you forget about until it's stripped away is gone. Resolution goes up a notch, which is what my HD800 needs. That feeling of being sucked into the music has returned.

    It's not the Gungnir Multibit but its an excellent substitute until she's back in a month or so. Hell I may just keep Modi multibit because I like being around shit that sounds good.
