Some people missed the cut-off to A2 production, and were pissed they had to pay for upgrades. Part of it could have been @schiit's / Jason's fault for mentioning a particular month for A2 production. But people being social and emotional retards couldn't e-mail or PM Schiit and ask nicely.* They had to go on the boards and express their outrage that they bought OG Yggdrasil too early and now had to pay for upgrades. Oh, the insolence of the part of Schiit!

PEOPLE GET WHAT THEY DESERVE. People do not deserve cheap upgrades to Gungnir MB. For not at least another year or ever.

Gebus, I'd wish GM or Ford would even offer cheap upgrades, for when I bought the old version of the car just a month before the new model came out.

    * Asking nicely, several times, and patiently, usually works out best. Go to boards only if necessary, and even then be nice.

I bought an HTR-6160BL (RXV-663 clone -> 9 Year Old Noob Amazon-tastic Review Proof From Yours Truly), and the bastards obsoleted it. Then they had the nerve to release further model updates to it, year over year, starting w the RXV-665/765).

The good news is that there were no cheap upgrades. If you wanted the new features, you had to pay full price for the latest receiver. Win-win situation.

BTW, I still have and use this receiver. I honestly don't give a f**k about 4K, 10 HDMI inputs, and bluetooth right now. At the time, I got what I paid for IMO.

A lot of things failed Jozurr today. Punctuation, reading comprehension, 5th grade English class...

I don't understand why this purchase-upgrade deal is a problem.

If Yamaha offered an upgrade for such-and-such $, I would evaluate if it's worth it for me. I bought the system with the informaiton I had, and I got what I needed. The extra $ for an update might make sense if the price is right and if I cared for that update. I see it as a plus that a company would offer that. Honestly, if that was an option I probably wouldn't do it though, unless it was semi-free.

As far as secret changes and stuff. Again, it depends. If the specs remain the same or better, for me it is not a problem.

At the end of the day it comes down to this: You don't like it, buy something else.

If I were about to buy a Verite I think I'd enjoy being able to read about some of the process and considerations that had gone in to the design and tuning.

No, that would be marketing. If we allowed this, it would show that we are biased.

For what it’s worth I do recall Sennheiser showing the HD820 at multiple shows well before what they considered the ‘final tuning’ and Sony has been fine tuning the IER-Z1R after having it available to try at some shows without a definitive release date set. Not even the big boys are ‘above’ showing products that might not be exactly what the final production version will be.

Sennheiser doesn't talk to us despite SBAF having a huge bias toward Sennheiser headphones*. Therefore we are not biased and no need to call us out on it.

*the resolution-heads with the HD800 variants, the neutral-heads with their HD600s, the relaxo-heads with their HD650s, and the po-boys with the HD58Xs. No one likes the HD700 and HD660S, just as no one really liked Asgard and Mjolnir.

... aahhhhhh f**k self-restraint, I've been sitting on this for hours but want to ask. Please do note I almost definitely know less about measurements and how gear actually works than 95% of members. Hell, most of the technical discussions on here induce panicked eyebrows and go over my head even with loads of background Googling, so I'll happily eat crap if this is a silly question.

Relevant to measurements being reality checks, one individual raised some very valid concerns about bass distortion performance in the Verite thread, and I conceded that it certainly looked far from ideal. Comparable to the Clear but with better higher-order distortion in the one channel, but closer to the HD650 (not known for excellent bass quality) in the other.

Incidentally I've also tried some headphones with fast decay and found that they sounded too unsubstantive for my tastes (haha, @taisserroots said something similar in the HD820 thread while I was debating submitting this, which is what brought it to mind), and recalled @Serious suggested that higher distortion in this region could be a trade-off for getting better bass extension in another thread, reinforcing my belief that resonances and distortion aren't always bad things. Also remember reading an article on InnerFidelity (RIP) about how impedance peaks can identify primary driver resonances around which should be the point of bass rolloff, so maybe impedance measurements might add value to that thread/explain the measurements?

Still can't quite digest measurements entirely, haven't listened to enough gear, but I compared distortion measurements to that on the HP3 (current primary headphone, which I still like excepting maybe 5dB too much at 8kHz and a bit too much bass) and found that the Klipsch measured better in the lower registers, corroborating my own impressions of it having good quality lows. Whether or not additional distortion here might just sound boomier or how it influences the amount of detail retrieval in this area, no idea.

Bass is soft - probably from distortion. Transient response makes up for the soft bass. I think I said something to this effect in the measurement thread. Not my fault people don't read the little details, or the little details go over their head.

You know what bothers me about SBAF compared to the more hard-core Changstar? No one asks questions or for further elaboration anymore. For example: That bass distortion looks high? How did it sound? Any issues? How does the bass compare to HD650 since it looks about the same?

I'm not going to necessarily spell out everything all at once - simply too much to remember and to write down; and you guys already know that I would definitely take 10 minutes out of my time to listen carefully again and look for specific things if asked.

Honestly, what I think is that most people want to be lemmings. They want to be told what to buy. Probably explains why HF / Jude is so successful.

What makes me most happy is when people look at the measurements, identify showstopper issues (to them), and say: f**k this shit, I'm out. Take me off the loaner.

I started reading this and thought about the hd820 which were, evendetelly far from a final products during the several shows/meets they were shown. I don't remember seeing you Magnetostatic_Tubephile so upset about it then.

Everyone knows (or can use the search function) that i am not a ZMF fan, for non-product related issues. This is part of the past but since then i never even had the will to try anything from them, until the Auteur. But i don't know about you or @Jozur but paying a ridiculous amount of money for anything, and i mean anything in my life means a lot of hours of hard work and hard earned money and i like my product to be as good as it may be. Ofc i am not talking about changing the product as a whole but as fine tunnig, it could be headphones, it could be the motor of a car or better autonomy on a phone. We are talking about something that is not even in pre-order yet, no money has been taken, no money/time/effort has been taken from any customer but from those that were willing to give a hand to the manufacturer. Like someone said this was not an attempt to save on materials to increase revenue, this was to deliver the best possible product to the consumer.

All in all if this was already being sold or on pre-order i would understand you @Jozur but as it is i just seems weird to me. Your behavior on the other hand @Magnetostatic_Tubephile was really out there and not something i would expect from you or any other member, at least not here... in other forums maybe. While reading i could really feel my real age and not the jovial me that feels younger, made me understand the old people's rant "these damn kids".

This is not far from the truth. People seem to always look for a leader in most subjects, specially in the ones that they are the most uncertain themselves, this is actually pretty common and normal up to a point. The problem lies when a community takes it overboard and sees a person, or a group of persons, has the pinacle of wisdom, without second guessing and trying to look for the answer themselves, with their own reasoning, through their own experience, and we end up with believers, or lemmings.

So this thread is about a prototype and or pre-production sample (unit)? Aha. "Input Source Select" indeed...

    Dumb question.

If someone is selling their HD6XX for $190 net to them (which means buyer is paying paypal fees) with $28 in shipping, what's the point in buying that headset used when Massdrop has free shipping?

If you look up this head-fi for-sale I'm referencing, you'll see why this is a relevant question. I found it kind of odd.

It’s like my students when I ask “How many water molecules are in 18 milliliters of water?” I get two answers. A mol or a lot.
